Euroleague Tips with Previews – Final Four

Euroleague Basketball Predictions

Euroleague basketball predictions The Euroleague Final Four is back. CSKA Moscow, Anadolu Efes, Barcelona and Milano will be in Cologne on 28-30 of May to fight for the Euroleague 2021 crown. Who will win it?

Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.

CSKA Moscow – Anadolu Efes

  • CSKA Moscow has won 20 of the 25 games played against Anadolu Efes since 2000.

The first game at the 2021 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four will be a repeat of the 2019 championship game in which CSKA Moscow outlasted Anadolu Efes Istanbul. While Efes brings back the same core of players from that game, led by All-EuroLeague guards Vasilije Micic and Shane Larkin, CSKA has a different look with Toko Shengelia and Iffe Lundberg having joined, though 2019 Final Four MVP Will Clyburn remains. These two teams have the top offenses in the league with CSKA (84.4 ppg.) a nose ahead of Efes (84.1 ppg.).

Efes boasts one of the most efficient offenses in the league and CSKA will need all of its guards, led by Hackett and Lundberg, to be active and aggressive on defense – without falling into foul trouble. CSKA has been strong on the glass all season and when it defeated Efes, it won the battle of the boards 46-29. When Efes won in Istanbul, the hosts edged CSKA on the glass 32-31. Controlling the rebounds will be pivotal on Friday.

Although Efes is known for its scoring, when it has played its best defense it has been toughest to beat. Efes was 19-6 this season when holding opponents below 80 points… And 6-8 when it has allowed teams to reach 80. Holding the league’s No. 1 offense below 80 is no easy task, but CSKA went 6-5 when it scored less than 80 and 21-5 when it reached 80. Accordingly, a lower-scoring game may work in Efes’s favor.

Barcelona – Milano

FC Barcelona returns to the Final Four for the first time since 2014 and looks for its first championship game appearance since lifting the trophy in 2010. Nikola Mirotic (15.5 ppg., 5.8 rpg.), Brandon Davies (12.1 ppg., 4.3 rpg.) and Cory Higgins (12.9 ppg.) have been its pillars throughout the season. AX Armani Exchange Milan heads to its first Final Four in 29 years. Its last championship game appearance was in 1988. Kevin Punter (14.4 ppg.) has been its top scorer, followed by Shavon Shields (13.9 ppg.) and Malcolm Delaney (11.6 ppg.). Expect a high-profile tactical battle between coaching masterminds Sarunas Jasikevicius of Barcelona and Ettore Messina of Milan at the magnificent Laxness Arena in Cologne, Germany.

Pau Gasol has given Barcelona a spark at both ends of the floor. He led the playoffs in PIR per 40 minutes (32.2) and his experience, talent and all-around scoring skills make Barcelona more unpredictable. Barcelona arguably played its best defensive game of the season at Mediolanum Forum. It held Milan to 15-of-39 shooting inside the arc (38.5%) and 2-of-15 from downtown (13.3%). Milan also committed 17 turnovers, which was a lot more than its season average (11.1). Getting anywhere close to these numbers should send Barcelona closer to the championship game. As always, Mirotic and Higgins should be their team’s leaders in crunch time, and stopping Shields should be a priority in this decisive game.

Calathes averaged 12.5 assists against Milan this season and the Italian powerhouse will try to prevent him from distributing the ball so fluently. Milan ranks 17th in offensive rebounds this season (8.2 orpg.) and Barcelona has excelled at that all season, averaging 10.5 per night. Boxing out to get the defensive boards should be critical for Milan, as it can find easy points in transition through Delaney and Rodriguez. Experience is on Milan’s side, as players like Datome, Rodriguez and especially Hines know what it takes to be successful in this environment. Well-rounded streak shooters like Punter and Michael Roll should give Milan a spark in a one-of-a-kind showdown like this.
