Maccabi v Bayern

Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv will try to keep its home record unblemished when it hosts FC Bayern Munich, which is coming off a road win and looking to build on that momentum. Maccabi lost 76-72 at CSKA Moscow last week despite 20 points from Scottie Wilbekin. Bayern bested its German-League rival ALBA Berlin 72-90 in Round 2 behind Nick Weiler-Babb’s 15 points. Bayern players Jalen Reynolds and Malcolm Thomas both return to Tel Aviv to face the teams they made their EuroLeague debuts with.

Maccabi’s only real struggles through two games have been outside shooting; Coach Sfairopoulos’s men are 25.0% on three-pointers, which is second-lowest in the league. However, Bayern has allowed its opponents to make 44.2% of their threes, which is second most. With so many elite shooters, if Scottie Wilbekin, Tyler Dorsey, Elijah Bryant and Dragan Bender turn it around, it will make the entire Maccabi attack hum.

Bayern has dominated the glass so far this season by holding its opponents to a league-low 5.5 offensive rebounds and 26.0 rebounds per game. Maccabi is tied for third with 12.0 offensive rebounds per game and has a pair of aces in that category in Othello Hunter and Ante Zizic. If Bayern neutralizes the Maccabi bigs on the boards and can control the glass, it will be in a good spot for aa second road win.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-7.5) at 2.00 with bet365

Olympiacos – Milano

Two teams coming off Round 2 victories will meet when Olympiacos Piraeus hosts AX Armani Exchange Milan. The Reds seek their first home win after topping archrival Panathinaikos OPAP Athens 71-78 behind 17 points from Georgios Printezis. Milan handled LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne 87-73 led by Shavon Shields with 17 points and 7 rebounds.

The biggest weakness for the Reds to date has been three-point shooting (25.5%), which is surprising given the glut of talented marksmen on the Olympiacos roster. When the shots start to fall for Vassilis Spanoulis, Kostas Papanikolaou, Aaron Harrison and Sasha Vezenkov, it will not only see the scoring spike but also make things easier for the big guys in the paint.

Milan is second in the league in scoring this season with 84.0 points per game, however, Olympiacos has one of the strongest defenses. It has allowed only 69.5 points per game and held opponents to 11.0 assists and 27.3% three-point shooting. Milan’s deep backcourt led by Delaney and Sergio Rodriguez will be tasked with setting the tone, moving the ball and keeping the Reds’ perimeter defenders on their heels to allow the visitors to take charge on the road.

Kevin Punter has been sidelined for the start of the season with a hip flexor. Vladimir Micov missed the team’s first two games of the season.

basketball prediction Tip: Under 152.5 at 1.903 with bet365

Fenerbahce – CSKA Moscow

It’s a cause for celebrations whenever giants of the EuroLeague Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul and CSKA Moscow meet. Fenerbahce will look to keep its perfect record intact after beating crosstown rival Anadolu Efes Istanbul 71-80 last week behind 20 points from Nando De Colo and a double-double by Jan Vesely. CSKA edged Maccabi 76-72 in Round 2 for its first win as Mike James and Will Clyburn combined for 44 points.

Fenerbahce is 2-0 despite committing the second-most turnovers in the league, 17.0 per game, this season. It has made up for that by leading the league in rebounding (40.5 rpg.) and holding teams to a league-low 67.0 points scored per game. Cutting down on the turnovers and remaining aggressive on the glass are two keys for Fenerbahce in Round 3.

CSKA is last in the league in two-point shooting at 42.9% as it has struggled with the absence of All-EuroLeague center Nikola Milutinov. It won’t get easier this week against Fenerbahce’s staunch frontline, however, in Toko Shengelia, Joel Bolomboy and Johannes Voigtmann CSKA has the tools to attack in the paint and it will need more production at both ends to boost the team’s chances on the road.

Semen Antonov, Nikola Milutinov and Janis Strelnieks tested positive for COVID-19 and missed CSKA’s Round 2 game.

basketball prediction Tip: Winning margin 3-way Any other result at 2.65 with bet365

Real Madrid – Khimki

Two teams that have started the season with back-to-back losses will play for a valuable victory when Real (0-2) welcomes Khimki (0-2) to the Spanish capital on Wednesday. Los Blancos lost their first two games of the season for the first time this century, dropping both to fellow Spanish teams, and will surely want to stop the bleeding as soon as this week. Khimki, which has been beset by missing players due to injury and COVID-19 cases, also lost the first two, including a home game on Saturday against Zalgiris in Round 2. Expect a tough duel for a first win that will give some air to the team coming out on top.

Real is finding itself in a strange situation with no wins after two games. For sure, the 2018 champs will want to get in the victory column, and to do so will likely have to boost the second-worst scoring numbers in the league, 70.0 points per game. Real is also next-to-last in assists (12.0) and dead last in average PIR at 68.5. Those three figures reflect that Los Blancos are not their true selves yet. Sure, it’s very early in the season, but a third loss could become an unpleasant burden to carry into the next couple of months.

Jeffery Taylor and Felipe Reyes missed Real’s first two games of the season.

The season didn’t start too well for Khimki, either.. The team’s main star and scorer Alexey Shved was not around for the first two games due to injury, and the team is also missing several players due to COVID-19, like Greg Monroe, Jordan Mickey and Janis Timma, who are all key pieces in the puzzle that coach Rimas Kurtinaitis wants to put together this season. Khimki’s skill can be glimpsed in its league-leading 20.0 assists per game As soon as its key players come back, Khimki will be on its way to reaching its full potential.

Khimki’s Jordan Mickey, Janis Timma, Evgeny Voronov Greg Monroe and Maxim Barashkov have all tested positive for COVID-19 last week and have been isolated and are under medical supervision. Alexey Shved, Stefan Jovic and Errick McCollum all missed the first two games of the season.
