CSKA – Crvena Zvezda

Wednesday night’s EuroLeague action begins in the Russian capital where CSKA Moscow hosts Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade. Both teams are eager to bounce back after Round 13 losses. CSKA fell in Israel at the hands of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv. Zvezda saw its three-game winning streak ended by KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. Star guard Lorenzo Brown left the game late with an apparent leg injury and his participation on Tuesday is in question.

Is the magic number for CSKA 84? Coach Itoudis’s charges are actually averaging 83.7 points per game, but in the six games they have scored more than 84 points they are 6-0. In the remaining games, the record is 2-5. It is possible that CSKA could win with fewer points provided it posts a strong defensive effort on Wednesday; Zvezda’s 71.8 points per game rank last in the league.

Three-point shooting has been a real Achilles heel for Zvezda this season; its 32.4% conversion rate is third-worst in the league and CSKA’s 40.3% is third-best. Charles Jenkins, Filip Covic and Ognjen Dobric are those expected to see a rise in minutes played id Lorenzo Brown misses the game and a strong outside shooting night from that trio would be a big boost for the Serbian champs.

ALBA Berlin – Bayern

The quintessential German derby will have its first EuroLeague edition in Round 14 as ALBA Berlin (4-9) welcomes FC Bayern Munich (5-8) on Wednesday. ALBA has lost three of its last four games, including the last one at Khimki, 104-87. The hosts still have problems with injuries. Bayern also lost three of its last four, but the last one was the win against Zenit, 77-69, that will surely give the German champs good morale for the short trip to Berlin.

ALBA’s main problems are in the infirmary right now. Missing players like Thiemann, Peno or Cavanaugh is taking its toll on the EuroCup runners-up. However, ALBA is still a better team in offense than Bayern, including rebounds and assists, and the fact that it plays at home it could help them take revenge from the German finals.

Bayern won its last game and will look to turn that into a winning streak. ALBA performs better on the court overall, but Bayern has managed to win more games. That reliability will have to show also in Berlin on Wednesday, as the German champs will have to exploit the weaknesses of the hosts provided by the injuries.

Olympiacos – Khimki

Olympiacos comes off back-to-back road losses at Panathinaikos OPAP Athens and Real Madrid and will try to bounce back in front of its fans. Khimki had a brilliant home victory against ALBA Berlin last week which snapped a four-game losing streak. Vassilis Spanoulis (10.7 ppg.) has been Olympiacos’s top scorer until now, followed by Georgios Printezis (10.6 ppg.) and Nikola Milutinov (10.5 ppg.). However, Spanoulis missed the game in Madrid through injury. Alexey Shved (19.8 ppg.), Round 13 MVP Devin Booker (13.4 ppg.) and Anthony Gill (10.5 ppg.) are Khimki’s leaders with Janis Timma (14.4 ppg.) is sidelined.

Olympiacos has scored over 80 points in five of its last six games and over 90 in three of its last four. The Reds, however, have a lot of room for improvement in three-point shooting (35.1%), so players like Vassilis Spanoulis, Kevin Punter, Brandon Paul and Taylor Rochestie must step up from downtown. As always, Nikola Milutinov will be double-teamed and Olympiacos has to find a way to make the most out of it, circulating the ball well to find open shots.

Without Jannis Timma, players like Anthony Gill, Jonas Jerebko and Sergey Karasev will have extended responsibilities on offense. Khimki ranks second in scoring (86.9 ppg.) this season, but also in points allowed (87.0 ppg.). It is last in fouls drawn (17.6 per game), so more aggressiveness on defense will lead to more fastbreak opportunities and a better offensive flow, in which players like Alexey Shved, Karasev and Devin Booker feel more comfortable.

basketball prediction Tip: Under 172.5 at 1.90 with bet365
