Zalgiris – Panathinaikos

Two proud teams in the bottom half of the standings aim to stay in touch with the top half when Zalgiris (3-5) hosts Panathinaikos (4-4) in the very first game of an action-packed double-round week on Tuesday. Panathinaikos dominates their series this century, having won 16 of the 22 games, however Zalgiris has prevailed in four of the last five and only lost the fifth one by a point in Athens. Panathinaikos, on the other hand, actually owns the better record between them in Kaunas, 6-5.

Zalgiris would like to improve in almost all offensive metrics, but the key to all that is what Panathinaikos does much better: assists. From better passing comes better shots, higher percentages and more points. Zalgiris’s top four passers average just 10.8 assists as compared the 9.3 by Calathes alone on Panathinaikos. The defense on him, but also those Zalgiris passers creating better for their teammates, is essential for the hosts. Zalgiris needs to be careful of the fifth-ranked Panathinaikos shot-bockers, too, while working overtime to protect the rim itself, because the visitors are the best EuroLeague team at making two-point shots.

Panathinaikos may lead the EuroLeague in performance index rating, but three one-point defeats have brought change to the bench because its defense couldn’t do the job. The Greens, who give up a league-high 13.1 offensive rebounds, must find a way to finish defensive possessions better on Tuesday, especially since Zalgiris grabs the second-most of any team, 11.9 per game. The hosts are masters at drawing fouls, getting to the foul line and making free throws, too. Extra possessions and free throws win close games, and with more of both, Panathinaikos could be 7-1.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (+3.5) at 1.90 with bet365
(Price correct at 19/11/2019, 09:50 CET, could have changed)

ALBA Berlin – Crvena Zvezda

One team will leave its last-place record behind when ALBA (2-6) hosts Zvezda (2-6) on Tuesday of Round 9. They are tied with three other teams at the bottom of the standings, but the winner of this game and one between Valencia Basket and Zenit St Petersburg is assured of climbing up a notch. ALBA and Zvezda have played just two games previoulsy this century, in the 2014-15 EuroLeague Top 16, and each won at home.

This is a stylistic battle, for sure. ALBA spreads the floor and moves the ball quickly to let the first open shooter try his luck. That recipe has the team making more assists (20.5) than any other EuroLeague team. It will need to work well against an in-your-shirt, defense-first team like Zvezda, but don’t expect ALBA to change on offense as much. The hosts expect to score, so the question is whether their defense will be as strong again at home, particularly in the paint, where Zvezda struggles with the lowest accuracy (45.3%) in the league.

ALBA is missing playmakers Peyton Siva and Stefan Peno to injuries. Also injured is Tyler Cavanaugh.

Zvezda has relied on guards Barron and Lorenzo Brown for much of its second-to-last-ranked offense lately, and the problem with that relance was evident in a loss to LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, the league’s poorest offense, last week at home. Shot selection around the basket especially shold be on the visitors’ priority list, especially knowing that ALBA has been the EuroLeague’s weakest team in that reguard, allowing 56.4% shooting to its opponents. The more Zvezda can score inside while Baron, Brown and league-leading three-point shooter Borisa Simanic (63.6%) threaten from the perimeter, the more chances the visitors will have to win. Stopping ALBA from scoring at home is the lesser option, this time.

Stratos Perperoglou and James Gist stayed in Belgrade, Nikola Jovanovic and Derrick Brown travel with team.

basketball prediction Tip: Under 163.5 at 1.90 with bet365
(Price correct at 19/11/2019, 09:50 CET, could have changed)

Bayern – Olympiacos

One of the teams locked in a four-way tie in the bottom half of the standings will take a step up on the other, at least, when FC Bayern Munich (3-5) hosts Olympiacos Piraeus (3-5) on Tuesday. Olympiacos has won all four of their previous games, including a sweep last season in which its defense dominated to the point of allowing Bayern just 62 points in a home loss. That was Bayern’s second-worst offensive performance at home ever.

Good as Bayern has been it at home, it has the curious distinction of ranking second in the EuroLeague with 40.7% three-point shooting while attempting fewer shots from the arc than any other team. Maodo Lo and Petteri Koponen both top 50% and take their fare share, but a third marksman would let Bayern have two shooters to space the floor at all times, leaving more room for Monroe, Vladimir Lucic and Danilo Barthel to operate. Nihad Dedovic, who scores inside and out, was once that extra threat, but his numbers from the arc a down so far. This first of two home games this week would be the perfect time for him to recover his shot and give Bayern a much-needed boost.

The long-time Olympiacos model of physical defense leading to opportunistic offense is flagging this season under low shooting percentages and the competition’s fourth-weakest offense. Good enough to surprise CSKA in Moscow but inconsistent enough to lose to Zenit St Petersburg at home, the Reds long for steadiness beyond Milutinov and two of the three top all-time scorers in EuroLeague history, Georgios Printezis and Vassilis Spanoulis. In the meantime, Milutinov will need help inside from Augustine Rubit and Willie Reed to contain the Bayern big men, lest it be a tough night for the visitors.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (+5.0) at 1.90 with bet365
(Price correct at 19/11/2019, 09:50 CET, could have changed)

ASVEL Villeurbanne – Anadolu Efes

LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne will put its perfect home record on the line against last season’s EuroLeague runner-up, Anadolu Efes Istanbul. It will be the first official game between the two teams in nearly 16 years. ASVEL arrives in good spirits after defeating the champs in Round 7 and claiming its first road win, over Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in overtime, last week. Efes, which has also won its last two games, is 2-1 on the road this season.

Playing against a team with elite point guards who like to push the pace, ASVEL’s playmakers must play with poise to keep the tempo to their team’s liking. Jordan Taylor and David Lighty will be tasked with that job while noting that in its five wins, ASVEL has averaged 73.6 points per game. In its six victories, Efes has been worth 87.7 points. It is also pertinent that ASVEL improves its two-point shooting accuracy, which at 47.5 percent is third-worst in the league.

Only twice this season has Efes failed to score 75 points and it lost in both of those games. ASVEL has held opponents to 74.6 points per game. In Efes’s two losses, it has shot 23.2% on three-pointers (16 for 69) and had 8 of its shots blocked, which is twice as many per game as in its wins. Efes needs to improve on those numbers to become the first team to snatch a win in France this season.

basketball prediction Tip: Winning Margin 1-5 points (any team wins) at 2.60 with bet365
(Price correct at 19/11/2019, 09:50 CET, could have changed)

Real Madrid – Khimki

Real Madrid will aim to climb another rung in the standings when it hosts Khimki Moscow Region, which is one of the six teams tied for the best record in the league. Real has won three in a row, including last week’s victory over archrival FC Barcelona, and is undefeated in its four home games. Khimki has won back-to-back games and is 2-2 on the road this season. Khimki has also won two of its last four games in the Spanish capital.

Stopping the scoring exploits of Khimki superstar Alexey Shved is something no team has been able to do, but Real surely knows that in Khimki’s two losses this season, Shved has averaged 3.0 assists and 3.5 turnovers. In the team’s six wins, he’s been worth 7.0 assists. Rudy Fernandez, Jeffery Taylor and Sergio Llull are all likely to spend some minutes guarding Shved and if they can make his life miserable, it could pay dividends for Los Blancos.

Mental toughness and a strong start are always keys to road wins. In Khimki’s two losses – at CSKA Moscow and Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade, the team started slow and never led at all in the game. CSKA led by double figures in the first quarter and Zvezda went up by 14 in the second quarter. In Madrid, Khimki cannot afford to find itself in such a big hole and certainly not so early in the game. A strong start is a must for Khimki.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-8.0) at 1.90 with bet365
(Price correct at 19/11/2019, 09:50 CET, could have changed)

Valencia – Zenit

In a clash between two of the five teams tied for last place in the league at 2-6, Valencia Basket hosts Zenit St. Petersburg with the winner knowing it will climb a few spots higher in the standings. After a 0-5 start to the season, Valencia has found its footing and won two of its last three games. Coach Jaume Ponsarnau’s men are 2-1 at home this season. After its late rally against Efes in Round 8 came up short, Zenit has now lost three straight games. Coach Joan Plaza’s side is 2-2 in road games this season.

It starts and ends with defense. In its two wins, Valencia has limited its opponents to 64.0 points per game. In its six losses, that number climbs to 86.3 points. Valencia has a deep roster with many players who can play a big role on any given night. Thus far, the team has yet to find a consistent second scorer next to Bojan Dubljevic with the likes of Jordan Loyd and Brock Motum vacillating between big games and quiet ones. Strong team defense and strong offensive games from secondary scorers may be the recipe for another home victory for Valencia.

These teams have produced very similar numbers this season, but one area where they differ has been offensive rebounding. Zenit leads the league with 12.1 boards per game, while Valencia has allowed the fewest offensive boards per game (8.2) this season. In a game that could come down to the details, gaining a few extra possessions through the offensive glass or a few extra points through put-backs or denying those to the opposition could make the difference. Gustavo Ayon, Mateusz Ponitka and Colton Iverson are the men Zenit will rely on for that task.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 154.5 at 1.90 with bet365
(Price correct at 19/11/2019, 09:50 CET, could have changed)

Milano – Maccabi

A share of first place is at stake when AX Armani Exchange Milan hosts Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv on Tuesday in the fashion capital. While Maccabi heads to Italy after winning six in a row, Milan comes off a loss last week at Khimki Moscow Region. Milan is undefeated in four home contests so far. Maccabi is 2-2 on the road.

Maccabi has excelled in rebounding (a league-best 38.4 rpg.) so far this season, but it has yet to play a team with the size advantage that Milan can pose with Kaleb Tarczewski (2.13 meters) and Luis Scola (2.06 meters). The concern for the visitors will be even greater if Omri Casspi, who missed his team’s victory in Vitoria-Gasteiz last week, remains sidelined with a knee injury. Making the most of that advantage at both ends of the court will be critical to Milan’s chances.

After last week’s monster victory in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Maccabi leads the EuroLeague in scoring (87.8 ppg.), but its biggest strength this season has been its defense, which shows with Maccabi topping the table in defensive rebounds (28.9) and steals (9.2 ppg.). When it controls the defensive glass and gets steals, Maccabi is a force in transition. However, this week it must also slow the league’s most-accurate three-point shooting team (44.3%). Controlling the boards and limiting Milan’s outside shooting would greatly boost Maccabi’s chances.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-2.5) at 1.90 with bet365
(Price correct at 19/11/2019, 09:50 CET, could have changed)

CSKA Moscow – Panathinaikos

  • CSKA holds a 21-16 advantage in the EuroLeague against Panathinaikos.

These Turkish Airlines EuroLeague superpowers meet again. CSKA Moscow (7-5) and Panathinaikos OPAP Athens (3-9) combine for 14 continental crowns. CSKA has won its last two games after losing four of its previous five. Will Clyburn (16.0 ppg.) is its top scorer, followed by Toko Shengelia (15.1 ppg.) and Johannes Voigtmann (11.4 ppg.). Panathinaikos comes off a win that stopped a five-game losing streak. Daryl Macon Jr. (16.4 ppg.), Georgios Papagiannis (8.8 ppg., 7.9 rpg.) and Ioannis Papapetrou (12.1 ppg.) are its pillars this season. This is a rematch of the 2007 and 2009 EuroLeague championship games.

basketball prediction  Tip: CSKA Under 86.5 at 1.80 with bet365

Fenerbahce – Monaco

  • This is the first official meeting between the two clubs.

Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul hosts AS Monaco on Thursday in a game between two teams coming off Round 12 heartbreakers and looking to end losing streaks. Fenerbahce (3-9) has lost four in a row, including an 84-89 decision at Anadolu Efes Istanbul last week after leading by as many as 12 in the fourth quarter. Marial Shayok scored a personal best 18 points in defeat. Monaco (5-7) has lost its last three games. On Friday, it was felled by French league foe LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, 84-85, on a desperation three at the buzzer. Paris Lee scored a career-high 20 points in the losing effort. This game marks the first meeting between the sides.

basketball prediction  Tip: Over 156.5 at 1.86 with bet365

Zalgiris – Baskonia

  • Baskonia has a 14-10 lead in EuroLeague games against Zalgiris.

Last-placed Zalgiris Kaunas will try to move up in the standings when it hosts Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz on Thursday evening. Zalgiris (2-10) had won back-to-back games – its first victories of the season – in Rounds 9 and 10 before getting spanked by 23 points in Barcelona last week. Tau Webster had his best game since joining Zalgiris with 13 points and 4 assists in the loss. Baskonia (4-8) has lost six of its last seven games, including a 60-88 drubbing at the hands of Real Madrid last week. Simone Fontecchio showed signs of breaking out of a slump with 14 points and 7 rebounds. The game is the only time this season that Baskonia’s two Lithuanian players, Rokas Giedraitis and Tadas Sedekerskis, will get to play in their homeland.

basketball prediction  Tip: 1 (-3.5) at 1.90 with bet365

Bayern – Villeurbanne

  • The home team has won each of the four games between these two teams.

FC Bayern Munich will seek its third straight home win when it hosts feisty LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne on Thursday. Bayern (5-7) came up short 77-74 last week in Moscow despite 28 points from Darrun Hilliard, but has a winning record at home and knows how important turning Audi Dome into a fortress is for its playoff hopes. ASVEL (7-5) edged AS Monaco on a mid-court heave at the buzzer by William Howard in Round 12 to end a three-game losing streak. Coach TJ Parker’s squad is 3-2 on the road this season. This will be the fifth meeting between the sides; the home team has won the previous four by double digits each time.

basketball prediction  Tip: 2 (+7.5) at 1.86 with bet365

Real Madrid – Maccabi

  • Real leads the all-time series 38-24 and holds an 18-11 advantage in games this century.

It is the most repeated showdown in European competition. Real Madrid (10-2) and Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv (7-5) face each other for the 63rd time. Real has a 38-24 record against Maccabi and beat the Israeli champion in the 1980 EuroLeague championship game. Maccabi avenged that loss in the 2014 final. Real is on a five-game winning streak. Walter Tavares (12.6 ppg., 7.1 rpg., 1.7 bpg.), Guerschon Yabusele (12.3 ppg., 4.4 rpg.) and Vincent Poirier (7.6 ppg., 6.4 rpg.) are leading the team this season. Scottie Wilbekin (14.8 ppg.), James Nunnally (13.4 ppg.) and Ante Zizic (12.8 ppg.) are Maccabi’s top scorers.

Crvena Zvezda – Unics Kazan

  • The record between these two clubs is 1-1 from the season 2016-17.

Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade will look to assert its home-court advantage when UNICS Kazan, led by former Zvezda playmaker Lorenzo Brown, comes to the Serbian capital for a Friday night clash. Zvezda (4-7) lost twice on the road in the two-round week, but is 3-1 at home this season. UNICS (6-5) has struggled thus far on the road with just one win in five games. However, Coach Perasovic’s men have won three straight games, including an 85-71 victory over ALBA Berlin on Friday, in which Lorenzo Brown erupted for 21 points and 9 assists to earn MVP of the Round honors. The playmaker made his EuroLeague debut with Zvezda in 2019-20 and this will be his first time back in front of fans since he left.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 at 2.15 with bet365

Monaco – Villeurbanne

  • This is the first-ever official meeting between the two clubs.

The two giants of French basketball meet on Friday when AS Monaco hosts LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. These clubs have won every French championship since 2017. Both teams are coming off tough weeks and looking to put an end to their respective slides. Monaco (5-6) has lost its last two games, both times by double-digit margins. However, those games were on the road – in Tel Aviv and Istanbul. Monaco is 4-1 at home this season. ASVEL (6-5) has lost three in a row, including two home games last week by double-digit margins. ASVEL is 2-2 on the road so far this season. This will be the teams’ first meeting on the continental stage since the 1975 Korac Cup.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 159.5 at 1.90 with bet365

Milano – Olympiacos

  • Olympiacos leads 14-7 in games between these sides this century.

AX Armani Exchange Milan will put its perfect home record on the line on Friday against Olympiacos Piraeus, which is winless on the road thus far. Milan (8-3) comes off a tough two-round week in which it lost twice in Russia to fall out of a share of first place. However, it will be comfortable back at Mediolanum Forum, where the team is 6-0 this season – including wins over all three of last season’s other Final Four teams. Olympiacos (7-4) split its games last week, faltering late at Anadolu Efes Istanbul before jumping on Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv early to win at home. The Reds are 0-4 on the road so far this season. These teams have split their last eight meetings and the home team has won the last four.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (+5.0) at 1.90 with bet365

Barcelona – Zalgiris

  • Barcelona has dominated this series, holding a 24-5 lead this century, including 5 straight wins in the last games.

Two teams from opposite ends of the standings meet when FC Barcelona hosts Zalgiris Kaunas on Friday. The game will see Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and players Brandon Davies, Nigel Hayes-Davis and Rokas Jokubaitis face their former team. Barcelona has won three games in a row and is tied for first place with a 9-2 record. Zalgiris is tied for last at 2-9, but won twice last week, besting Panathinaikos OPAP Athens and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul at home. That said, the Lithuanian champs are winless on the road in six tries this season – and have lost 12 straight road games dating back to last season. Barcelona is 5-0 at home this season and has won the last meetings with Zalgiris.

CSKA Moscow – Bayern

  • Bayern has won only one of eight games against CSKA this century, but it was their last meeting in Moscow.

Two teams in the middle of the pack will clash in Round 12’s first game when CSKA Moscow hosts FC Bayern Munich. CSKA (6-5) split its games in the two-round week, finishing it with a 74-80 road win at Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz in which Johannes Voigtmann and Will Clyburn scored 16 points apiece. Bayern (5-6) won both games last week at home; it bested Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul by 8 points behind 22 points from Vladimir Lucic and then beat Panathinaikos OPAP Athens by 3 with Darrun Hilliard scoring 20. The game will mark Hilliard’s first trip back to Moscow after spending the past two seasons with CSKA. Bayern center Othello Hunter also played two seasons for CSKA in the past and helped the team win the EuroLeague in 2019.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 155.5 at 1.90 with bet365

Fenerbahce – Anadolu Efes

  • The road team has won the last three games in the Istanbul derby. Fenerbahce is 11-5 up in the Euroleague.

The first Istanbul derby of the 2021-22 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season will take place on Thursday when Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul hosts Anadolu Efes Istanbul. The game catches the two teams in opposite runs of form. While Fenerbahce (3-8) has lost three straight games, Efes (5-6) has reeled off three successive wins. Fenerbahce comes off an 86-75 loss at Zalgiris Kaunas in which Nando De Colo scored 17 points and dished 5 assists. Efes trounced AS Monaco 98-77 on Friday behind 17 points and a career-high 7 assists from Rodrigue Beaubois. The two teams last met in the Turkish League last month when Fenerbahce routed Efes 90-68 at home behind 17 points from Devin Booker. Their last three EuroLeague clashes have gone the way of the visitors, with Efes winning two of those.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (-3.5) at 1.86 with bet365

Panathinaikos – Zenit

  • Zenit swept Panathinaikos last season. Panathinaikos did the same a year before that.

Panathinaikos OPAP Athens looks to end a five-game slide when it hosts red-hot Zenit St Petersburg, which has won five in a row. Panathinaikos (2-9) came up short in Germany on Thursday against FC Bayern Munich despite 12 points and 6 assists from Daryl Macon Jr., who has been the Greens’ most dangerous offensive weapon this season. Zenit (8-3) outlasted AX Armani Exchange Milan in Round 11 behind 17 points from Jordan Mickey. Zenit head coach Xavi Pascual returns to the Greek capital, where he spent parts of three seasons as Panathinaikos coach between 2016 and 2018. Last season under Pascual, Zenit defeated Panathinaikos twice by an average margin of victory of 20.5 points.

basketball prediction Tip: Panathinaikos Over 73.5 at 1.83 with bet365

ALBA Berlin – Maccabi

  • Maccabi has a 13-1 record in games against ALBA this century.

ALBA Berlin will look to snap a three-game losing streak when the German champs host Israeli champion Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. ALBA (3-8) is 1-4 at home this season and lost its most recent home game by 27 points to Anadolu Efes Istanbul in Round 9. Maccabi (7-4) had won five in a row before dropping two of its last three. Both of those losses came on the road, where Maccabi is 2-3 this season. Maccabi comes off its worst loss of the season, a 17-point defeat at the hands of Olympiacos Piraeus. ALBA boasts two players who know Maccabi well; swingman Yovel Zoosman spent the past four seasons with the club and point guard Tamir Blatt, whose father David coached Maccabi to the 2014 EuroLeague title, spent the last three seasons with Maccabi’s archrival Hapoel Jerusalem.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (-4.5) at 1.90 with bet365

Baskonia – Real Madrid

  • Baskonia holds a 7-5 edge over Real in their head-to-head EuroLeague games.

Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz comes off an eventful week and will now host Spanish League foe Real Madrid in its third straight home game. Baskonia (4-7) made a coaching change last week and it resulted in a Round 10 victory over Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade before it suffered a narrow loss to CSKA Moscow in Round 11. With more time to introduce plans from Coach Never Spahija, Baskonia should be looking more dangerous from game to game. Real (9-2) has won four games in a row and is now tied for first place. Last week Los Blancos bested LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in France before topping Zvezda at home. These teams met most recently at the end of October in the Spanish League and Real strolled to a 65-83 road win courtesy of Vincent Poirier’s double-double. The same Poirier spent two seasons in Vitoria-Gasteiz and was a member of the All-EuroLeague Team in 2018-19 as a Baskonia player.
