Euroleague Preview & Tips

The first games of another fast and furious double week in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague provided lots of drama, with half of Round 13’s games going to the visiting teams with several upsets and comebacks along the way.  Now we welcome Round 14 expecting the teams to show stamina on the road to success. But, will they?

Thursday’s matches

Thursday’s first game comes from Istanbul and an all Turkish clash. Looking to go back to its winning ways, Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (4-9) welcomes Anadolu Efes Istanbul (6-7) to Abdi Ipekci Arena, the home of both Istanbul teams. This will only be the third time that these teams have faced off in EuroLeague action, with a current 1-1 record between them. Anadolu Efes boasts the third-best offense in the league (84.6 ppg.) and now faces the 12th-best (78.2 ppg.). On the other side of the spectrum, these teams have the second- and third-weakest defenses in the competition, respectively (Efes, 86.2 ppg. and Galatasaray, 85.4 ppg.) so it could look like Efes holds the upper hand at first sight. This might be enough for an Over 163.5 points encounter.

Aiming to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade (5-8) hosts Real Madrid (9-4). Madrid has a 1-3 record against Zvezda over the years in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague play. Marko Simonovic is the best man so far this season for the hosts (12.1 ppg. plus 3.2 rpg.) and he gets valuable help from Milko Bjelica (10.0 ppg. and 3.7 rpg.) and Ognjen Kuzmic (9.0 ppg. and 8.0 rpg.), the latter of whom is the best rebounder in the league. For Real Madrid, Sergio Llull is having another great season (18.5 ppg. and 6.0 apg.), ranking fourth and fifth respectively for points and assists in the competition. He has great support from Anthony Randolph (11.4 ppg. and 6.2 rpg.) and Jaycee Carroll (9.0 ppg.). Real Madrid has the second-best offense in the EuroLeague with its 88.8 points per game, while Crvena Zvezda struggles with the second-weakest offense, 73.4 points per game. On the other hand, the hosts boast the third-best defense in the league (75.3 ppg.). This is a tricky one but we will back the Over 163.0 points.

Zalgiris Kaunas (5-8) will look to turn its valuable road in win in Istanbul on Tuesday into a streak today when it hosts Unics Kazan (4-9) at Zalgirio Arena. The teams have met only twice previously in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague competition, with a win for each side so far. Visitor’s star Keith Langford leads the competition in scoring (23.8 ppg.) to which he also adds 3.9 assists per game. However, he missed the last game due to an ankle injury, and he is in doubt for this game also. The offenses of the two teams are a couple of points apart (81.4 to 79.4 for Zalgiris) and the numbers are also practically identical in defense, so expect the little details to play a major role on Thursday night. Zalgiris has an edge crashing the offensive rebounds, so those second options in offense could prove decisive. Expect a tough duel between two teams in a similar situations playing for the very same goal at this point in the season. Not an easy one either, but we have a feeling that Unics will at least hold the handicap of +6.0, currently priced at 1.90 with bet365.

Aiming to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat, Brose Bamberg (4-9) meets visiting Olympiacos Piraeus (9-4) at the Brose Arena. These teams have met four times in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague before and the German champs hold the positive end of a surprising 3-1 record! Georgios Printezis (12.2 ppg. and 4.4 rpg.) is sidelined due to injury for the Greeks. That’s why Olympiacos will need Matt Lojeski (11.4 ppg.) to step up as he did against Crvena Zvezda on Tuesday with his 18 points. Hackett is also out. Both teams have virtually identical numbers in offense, around 80 points per game, so it could all come down to the defense of Olympiacos, which is the best in the league allowing only 74.5 points per night, while Bamberg’s allows for 82.5. Olympiacos is also the best-rebounding team in the competition (37.5), but Bamberg can fight back with assists (17.8 against 14.9) and better shooting percentages from all ranges. The hosts have lost many games by few points and have proven that they can compete against anybody in the league, but Olympiacos is on a four-game winning streak and definitely doesn’t want it to stop in Germany. No matter what Olympiacos wants, our pick is a home win since Trinchieri’s men might have fount the magic recipe against the Reds. The home win is at 1.95 with bet365.

Friday’s matches

Friday starts with a Christmas cracker as Fenerbahce Istanbul (8-5) travels to CSKA Moscow (12-1) in the first rematch of last season’s Championship Game. Table-topping CSKA, which is first in the league in points (91) and assists (20.6), has won six games on the bounce and has not been defeated in Moscow for 17 games and more than a year. Fenerbahce needs to bounce back from a two-game losing sequence in which it has averaged just 67 points. CSKA’s stars Teodosic and De Colo have missed previous matches but their teammates still did the job. Today they are considered as doubtful, probably to mix up the opponent’s tactics. Fener is an experienced team and they have a chance in Russia. The away win is priced at 3.75. A more logical approach is the away win with a handicap of +7.5 points, currently priced at 1.90 with bet365.

Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (7-6) will gun for its third straight win with the visit of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv (5-8) which, conversely, needs to snap a four-game losing streak. Going up against the club he led to title glory in 2014, Darussafaka coach David Blatt knows his team has been outperformed by Maccabi in assists (14.5 per game against 17.6) and rebounding (21.3 against 25.3), but can call upon a more effective three-point shooting conversion rate (40.5% against 37%). This is a hard to call but Maccabi has provided some surprising results so far and maybe they have an answer to their recent form. It pays at 3.30 with bet365.

Surging Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens (8-5) and equally confident Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (9-4) meet in a big battle between the teams currently positioned fifth and fourth in the standings. Panathinaikos now possesses the league’s best defense after allowing just 66.67 points per game during its current three-game winning streak. But Baskonia has won four in a row, restricting its opponents to 62 points or less in three of those games, and this one could go either way. Panathinaikos looks strong at the moment and they should even cover the -6.5 points handicap (1.90 with bet365).

Finally, two teams in desperate need of an upturn in fortunes meet as FC Barcelona Lassa (5-8) hosts EA7 Emporio Armani Milan (4-9). Barcelona, which has lost six of its last seven games, has the worst offense in the league and hasn’t exceeded 76 points since Round 6. But Milan, which has lost six in a row, has allowed more points than any other team, 87.53 per game, and has also seen its previously solid offensive production plummet with an average of 72 points in the last three games. Barcelona should win but this is a no bet.

Euroleague Tips with Previews – Tuesday matches

Euroleague Basketball Predictions

The Euroleague continues with a double-round week and the battle for the playoffs heating up. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games. Here’s a rundown of what’s coming up.

Yes, these are the best Euro League basketball tips you can possible find and appear under each mini game preview.

Fenerbahce – Olympiacos

Tuesday’s action kicks off with third-placed Fenerbahce (13-8) hosting co-leader Olympiacos (14-7). The Round 13 matchup between the teams was a rout, with Olympiacos winning 94-67 thanks to 21 points from Sasha Vezenkov. In that first game, the Greek club blitzed for 31 points in the first quarter, thus Fenerbahce will have to be ready to contend from the outset, especially after a sluggish start in last week’s loss against ASVEL.

1 (-2.5) at 1.90

Milano – Baskonia

Following a dramatic overtime victory over defending champion Efes in which Darius Thompson set a new EuroLeague season high with 16 assists, playoff-chasing Baskonia (12-9) will attempt to keep its offence going with a trip to free-falling Milan (6-15). The Italian squad has slid to the bottom of the standings after losing five consecutive games, and after conceding 101 points to Monaco last week, Ettore Messina’s men will need a significant defensive improvement to limit Baskonia’s dynamic offence.

1 at 1.86

Valencia – Bayern

Valencia (11-10) and Bayern (9-12) meet off on Spain’s east coast, both with four wins in their past five games, as they try to maintain their march towards the playoffs. Valencia will almost certainly give shooter Shannon Evans his debut, although captain Bojan Dubljevic will almost certainly miss out due to injury. Augustine Rubit, the January MVP, will be expected to put up another good performance for Bayern, who has scored at least 13 points in each of the last seven games.

Over 161.5 at 1.90

Partizan – Villeurbanne

ASVEL (8-13) will look to build on their fantastic triumph over Fenerbahce last week when they go to Partizan (10-11), who is also on a high after a thrilling victory in the Belgrade derby. ASVEL’s newly recruited point guard Dee Bost will aim to continue his excellent start with his new club, while the host has its own backcourt ace in Dante Exum, who has double-digit scoring in the last nine games.

1 (6.5) at 1.90

Barcelona – Maccabi

Barcelona (13-8) must reclaim Palau Blaugrana’s status as a fortress after losing three of its past four home games, and it is also determined to avenge last week’s El Clásico overtime setback. Despite only two road wins this season, visiting Maccabi (11-10) is clinging to a spot in the top eight, but a victory by 8 points or more on Tuesday would be extremely significant in securing the head-to-head edge between the teams.

Over 160.5 at 2.60

Virtus Bologna – Crvena Zvezda

In Tuesday’s final game, two direct rivals just outside the playoffs meet as Virtus (9-12) hosts Zvezda (10-11). Virtus must improve his ball-handling skills after averaging a league-high 14.4 turnovers per game. It will be critical to maximise possessions against a Zvezda club that specialises on defence, allowing an average of 77.6 points per game. Zvezda won the first meeting between the teams in December and may be able to claim crucial head-to-head advantage this week.

Winning margin 3-way: Any Other Result (1-5 points) at 2.65

Euroleague Basketball Predictions

The Euroleague action for 2023 continues non-stop. We are already in round 21 and the teams know exactly what they need to get into the play off spots. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games.

Yes, these are the best Euro League basketball tips you can possible find and appear under each mini game preview.

Crvena Zvezda – Partizan

The EuroLeague’s devotion will be on full show at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall as Zvezda (10-10) and Partizan (9-11) battle in a key Belgrade derby. Zvezda won the December match thanks to a dramatic game-winning goal from Nemanja Nedovic. Both teams have been inconsistent recently, but none of that will matter when they meet in a battle when anything can happen and maximum intensity is certain. Another victory for Zvezda would secure a potentially lucrative tie-break advantage and effectively give them a three-game lead over their local rivals.

3-way Winning Margin – Other Result (1-5 points) at 2.60

Olympiacos – Maccabi

After downing Real Madrid in perhaps its best performance of the season last week, Olympiacos (13-7) will attempt to maintain its lead by defeating a Maccabi (11-9) squad that needs a rare away victory to stay in the playoffs. With a 59.0% conversion percentage, the Reds are the most accurate two-point shooting club in the competition, but they may struggle to get to the basket against a Maccabi side that ranks second in blocked shots at 3.7 per game.

1 (-7.5) at 1.87

Baskonia – Anadolu Efes

Baskonia (11-9) will look to snap a four-game losing streak against reigning champion Efes (10-10), who is still reeling from last week’s home setback to Bayern. Long-range shooting accuracy will be critical: Baskonia leads the league with 10.8 three-point attempts per game, barely ahead of Efes’ 10.6. The shootout between Markus Howard and former Baskonia star Shane Larkin, in particular, might prove decisive.

Over 165.5 at 1.95

Bayern – Virtus Bologna

There is still a lot of work to be done if Bayern (8-12) or Virtus (9-11) wish to make the playoffs, but both got off to a promising start with tough wins last week. One of them will get more impetus if he or she wins this week’s final tipoff in Munich. The sides’ first EuroLeague meeting, in Round 2, was a hard-fought 66-63 victory for Virtus, but this might be a more offensive fight with Milos Teodosic in excellent form for the visitors and veteran big man Othello Hunter unexpectedly becoming a three-point marksman for Bayern.

Euroleague Tips with Previews – Thursday matches

Euroleague Basketball Predictions

The Euroleague continues with round 21 containing a clasico in Spain and a massive derby in Belgrade. None of the rest of the games though will be an easy task for the favourites. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games.

Yes, these are the best Euro League basketball tips you can possible find and appear under each mini game preview.

Real Madrid – Barcelona

El Clasico’s latest round is a must-see battle between two of the co-leaders of Euroleague. Barcelona (13-7) has won three straight road games, as well as achieved a thrilling triumph at Palau Blaugrana in Round 2 when Sergio Llull missed an attempted game-winner at the buzzer. Real (13-7) will be looking to rebound from a bad showing at Olympiacos last week, and will need on another dominant performance from Walter Tavares to control the paint in what will undoubtedly be a rough contest.

Over 160.5 at 1.90

Alba Berlin – Valencia

Valencia (10-10) will aim to make it four wins in a row when it travels to ALBA Berlin (6-14) for a rematch of the EuroCup Finals from 2010 and 2019. Valencia has been plagued by injury issues recently, but important creator Chris Jones is now available, and new signing Shannon Evans, who leads the Spanish League in scoring this season, might make his debut. ALBA will look to former Valencia forward Luka Sikma for inspiration as it looks to rebound from successive losses and rekindle its fading playoff aspirations.

2 (+3.5) at 1.90

Asvel Villerbaunne – Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce (13-7) hopes to keep its share of top place with a win over ASVEL (7-13), which is searching for its first home win in four games. The Turkish titan’s three-game winning streak has been fueled by big man Johnathan Motley, who has averaged 17.7 points and 11.3 rebounds in that span. The struggle for inside supremacy between Motley and ASVEL’s Youssoupha Fall, who has scored in double figures in four straight games, will be crucial.

2 (-3.5) at 1.90

Monaco – Milano

Monaco (12-8) will look to add to the misery for Milan (6-14), which has plummeted to the bottom of the rankings with four successive losses. The home team has won the last seven games involving Monaco, including a Round 15 loss to Milan in Italy. Ettore Messina’s men overcame a 17-point deficit in that game by launching a 19-0 run in the last session, so Monaco coach Sasa Obradovic won’t need to encourage his players to compete for the full 40 minutes this time.

Over 154.5 at 1.90

Panathinaikos – Zalgiris

Zalgiris (12-8) visits struggling Panathinaikos (7-13) in pursuit of its fifth straight victory. Last week’s comeback triumph over Zvezda was secured by Edgaras Ulanovas, who can always be counted on to perform as Zalgiris’ emotional leader. But, maybe more than any other club, the Lithuanians rely on teamwork rather than individual brilliance, especially with a defence that has allowed just 76.2 points per game, the league’s second-lowest mark.

Winning margin 3-way: Any Other Result (1-5 points) at 2.60
