Euroleague Preview & Tips – Round 18 – A busy double-week

Published

on

euroleague basketball

Euroleague basketball predictions included under each mini game preview.

The first two-round week of 2018 starts with Round 18. Fans in the Serbian capital will get a chance to greet some an old friend in the Tuesday opener, in which Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade hosts Charles Jenkins and Khimki Moscow Region. There will be a playoff rematch in Istanbul, where Fenerbahce Dogus hosts Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens; Fenerbahce has won six straight home games against the Greens. And Spanish powerhouses Real Madrid and Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz will meet in the capital of Spain.

Wednesday’s matches

CSKA Moscow vs Anadolu Efes

Wednesday’s first game tips in the Russian capital where CSKA Moscow (13-4) looks to retain sole possession of first place with a home win against an Efes (5-12) team that hasn’t won on the road since mid-November. Efes will need all the athleticism of Derrick Brown to match up against the all-around effectiveness of Will Clyburn, who scored 20 points when CSKA recorded the most recent of its five straight wins over Efes earlier in the season. The Turkish team will be giving CSKA a new look as defensive expert Toney Douglas joins scoring threat Errick McCollom in the backcourt, but with Nando De Colo in outstanding form – scoring 23 and 24 points in his last two games – the hosts will take some stopping.

Tip: 2 (+13.0) at 1.90 with bet365

Fenerbahce vs Panathinaikos

A battle royale is in store in Istanbul as Coach Zeljko Obradovic’s Fenerbahce (11-6) looks for a victory that would displace his old team, Panathinaikos (12-5), from its current share of second place. Fit-again Panathinaikos point man Nick Calathes will attempt to continue his outstanding season by picking his way through a Fenerbahce defense that leads the league with an average of just 71.8 points conceded per game. If Jan Vesely remains sidelined by injury, that will be particularly good news for James Gist as the veteran seeks to continue arguably the best season of his career against his former club.

Tip: 2 (+5.0) at 1.90 with bet365

Real Madrid vs Baskonia

No team is hotter right now than Real Madrid (11-6), which has surged to joint third place with a run of six consecutive wins with the presence of newly signed Walter Tavares – who has averaged 10.5 points and 10 rebounds in his last two games – helping to overcome a lengthy injury list. Madrid lost by 30 against this week’s visitors Baskonia (8-9) when the teams met in Vitoria in Round 7, so expect a sense of revenge to be in the air as two teams that know each other extremely well go head to head. Baskonia showed its capabilities with last week’s thrashing of Olympiacos, and knows another win could be enough to climb into the playoffs zone.

Tip: 2 (+8.5) at 1.90 with bet365

AX Olimpia Milan vs Unicaja Malaga

Milan (4-13) is now rock bottom in the standings after suffering a run of eight losses in nine games, and will seek a turnaround against an Unicaja team (7-10) which has been plunged back into doubt by following four straight wins with two consecutive losses. Unicaja is the third-lowest scorer in the competition (76.4 points per game) but has a chance to improve that tally against Milan, which has allowed more points than anyone else (83.3 ppg.). The hosts need leading scorer Andrew Goudelock to return to form after being held scoreless by CSKA last week.

Tip: 1 (-1.0) at 1.90 with bet365

Tuesday’s matches

Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade vs Khimki Moscow Region

Two teams looking for a return to winning ways meet in the Serbian capital as Zvezda (7-10) hopes to boost its playoffs ambitions against a Khimki team (9-8) that could slip out of the top half with a defeat. It will be a special game for Khimki guard Charles Jenkins, a crowd-favorite in Belgrade, who returns to face his former team for the first time. The outrageously consistent scoring exploits of Alexey Shved (21.9 points per game) present a major challenge to a Zvezda defense that allowed 105 points against Efes last week, but the home team will look to exploit the ongoing absence of Khimki’s leading rebounder, Thomas Robinson, to dominate the paint through big men Milko Bjelica and Mathias Lessort.

Tip: 1 (-2.0) at 1.90 with bet365

Brose Bamberg vs Zalgiris

After losing three consecutive games it felt it should have won, Brose (6-11) will look to end its five-game slide against a visiting Zalgiris (11-6) that is managing to find new ways to win on an almost weekly basis. The energy of last week’s shot-blocking game-winning hero Edgaras Ulanovas will be vital in helping disrupt the passing rhythm Brose attempts to achieve, while the visiting backcourt duo of Kevin Pangos and Vasilije Micic will attempt to offer backcourt control and penetration against a Brose defense that has registered fewer steals (4.7 per game) than any other team.

Tip: 1 (-1.5) at 1.95 with bet365

Olympiacos vs Maccabi Tel Aviv

Olympiacos (12-5) will attempt to at least keep a hold of its current share of second place by bouncing back from last week’s thumping defeat against Baskonia, while Maccabi (9-8) will hope to use its stunning comeback win over Brose to reignite a playoffs challenge that had been in danger of faltering. Expect a contrast in styles between an Olympiacos team that likes to slow the game down and a Maccabi side that loves to unleash explosive fastbreaks. To win in an environment like Piraeus, Maccabi will probably have to improve its free-throw conversion rate of 67.9%, second-worst in the competition.

Tip: Over 154.0 at 1.90 with bet365

Valencia vs Barcelona

An all-Spanish affair will see Valencia (5-12) and Barcelona (6-11) attempt to get back on the winning track after seeing their respective mini-revivals halted by losses last week. These two teams are close to drinking in the last-chance saloon in terms of challenging for the playoffs, so expect nothing to be left on the floor. Barcelona has a clear edge in rebounding with an average of 36.3 per game against Valencia’s 31.1, and the visiting team will look to keep the ball moving to maintain its current status as the league leader in assists (21.2 per game).

Tip: Over 157.0 at 1.90 with bet365

Champions League tips tpday

Liverpool vs Real Madrid play in the Champions League final.

Who’s likely to start, who might be left out, and who is unavailable? We have brought together all the information available, so check out our Champions League final predictions today.

Saturday, 28/05/2022

  • Stade de France (80,698), Paris
  • Referee: Clement Turpin (France)
  • Real have won 13 Champions League titles (including the European Champions Cup) in 16 appearances in the final.
  • Liverpool have 6 Champions League titles (including the European Champions Cup) in 9 appearances in the final.

Road to the final

Liverpool wrapped up their on paper “tough group” (Atletico, Porto, AC Milan) with 6/6 wins. They then eliminated Inter, Benfica and Villarreal successively, winning on all 3 occasions and scoring 2+ goals on the road, while at home they only won against the Spaniards, drew with the Portuguese and were beaten by the Italians (0-2) in their only defeat in the competition this season.

Real Madrid cruised through the group stage (Inter, Sheriff, Shakhtar) with a 5-0-1 record. Their only loss was a shocking 1-2 defeat to Sheriff in Madrid. But Ancelotti’s team eliminated three championship contenders in… epic fashion. Against Paris Saint-Germain, they needed Benzema’s hat-trick in Madrid (3-1). The Frenchman scored 3 more goals in London against Chelsea (1-3) before his team beat the English side in extra time in the second leg. This was followed by two incredible games against Manchester City, losing 4-3 away, but scoring two goals after the 90 minutes in the replay and winning in extra time (3-1).

Liverpool vs Real Madrid possible line-ups

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Keïta; Salah, Mané, Luis Díaz

Real Madrid: Courtois; Carvajal, Éder Militão, Alaba, Mendy; Kroos, Casemiro, Modrić; Valverde, Benzema, Vinícius Júnior

Liverpool vs Real Madrid prediction

The odds don’t show how tightly contested the final can be, with Liverpool given as favourites by all bookmakers, but Real are the side that has linked their name with European success. Liverpool may be more tired from their unsuccessful battle to win the Premier League, and in two finals this season they have drawn 0-0 with Chelsea and won the titles on penalties.

On the other hand, Real have had a chance to refuel over the last month and are expected to be fresh, so they offset the disadvantage of the Reds’ greater physicality.

Whew… tough to predict. But we’ll go with the “2-3 goals” bet as our main prediction, with the most likely score being 1-1. Finally, we think 2.37 on the Spanish side to win is too generous to pass up.

Football bullet Tip 1: 2-3 goals at 2.00

Football bullet Tip 2: Correct Score 1-1 at 7.00

Football bullet Tip 3: Real Madrid to win the Trophy at 2.37

Real Madrid vs Efes Anadolu

  • Real Madrid has 26 wins against Efes, that has 13.

Anadolu Efes and Real Madrid will meet for the first time in the EuroLeague Championship Game, but they have played many important games recently, including the 2021 play-offs series, which Efes won and then went on to win the title in the Final Four a few weeks later.

In the current campaign, Real and Efes have met twice. Real trounced Efes 82-69 in their season opener, with newcomers Heurtel and Yabusele each scoring 18 points. Efes defeated Real 93-90 in Round 31 almost six months later, with Micic scoring 29 points.

The championship game in 2022 will be the latest chapter in this developing rivalry. It’s a defining moment for both, and only the victor will be fulfilled.

The final is completely unpredictable; we like Real’s victory at the odds of 2.00, but we will also predict two players’ special bets. Real Madrid’s Causeur proved in the semi-final that he is a big game player, and his job will be even more essential with Williams-Goss out, while Yabusele is testing his hand a lot, and the odds on the market of Over 1.5 three-point attempts are worth it from every angle!

basketball prediction Tip: Real Madrid win at 2.00

Our EuroLeague Final 4 tips appear under each mini game preview.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid

This season, Barcelona was one of the stronger rebounding teams in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, but it couldn’t match Real Madrid’s dominance on the boards.

Sarunas Jasikevicius’ team has conceded the fewest rebounds in the league this season, 31.2 per game, and outrebounded opponents by 3.2 per game. It had the third-most defensive rebounds (24.3 per game) and the fourth-most total rebounds (34.4 rpg.).

Real’s resurgent supremacy elevated it to a new level. Los Blancos dominated the league in rebounds (38.3 per game), defence boards (26.8 per game), and offensive boards (11.6 per game). It gave up the fewest rebounds (31.7 per game) and outrebounded opponents by an incredible 6.6 per game.

When Real met Barcelona this season, such was not the case. When the two teams played in Round 14, Barcelona won 36-29. After that, Barca won the battle of the boards 39-36 in Round 26. In El Clasico this season, Barcelona averaged 5 more boards per game than their opponents.

Matching those great defensive efforts in the semifinals could be the difference between Barcelona and the EuroLeague’s top rebounding club.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-3.5) at 1.90

Olympiacos vs Efes

Several figures stand out from Olympiacos and Efes’s prior games this season that could be worth watching in their semifinal clash.

Even though the teams won a game each, there was little else that was equal. Efes had 18 turnovers in each game, whilst the Reds had 26. Efes not only had more possessions, but they also shot substantially better, hitting 62.0%of their two-point attempts. Both teams tried 71 twos, but Olympiacos shot 53.5%, which was 6 less. Efes also had the best three-point shooting squad, making 20 of them (33.9%). The Reds converted 17 attempts at 30.9%.

Each game was won by the club that won the battle of the boards, with Olympiacos gathering 6 more rebounds across the two games. Even in the Round 26 game, which Efes lost, it outscored Olympiacos 90-105 in the performance index rating.

Olympiacos did get to the foul line more frequently, even if it did not shoot as well. The Reds converted 29 of 36 foul shots (80.6%), while Efes converted 25 of 27. (92.6%). Efes also had a superior season free-throw shooting percentage (82.1 percent -75.8%). However, if Olympiacos continues to draw a lot of fouls and puts Efes in foul trouble, that might be a game changer.
