Zalgiris – Efes

Undefeated Zalgiris Kaunas (3-0) will look to keep its winning streak alive on Thursday when it welcomes Anadolu Efes Istanbul (1-2), which just won its first game of the season in Round 3. Zalgiris comes off a valuable road win at Crvena Zvezda earlier this week, while Efes finally managed to check the win column with a solid team effort in Berlin against ALBA.

Zalgiris had not started the season with three wins since 2012-13, when it went 5-0, and will surely want to stay on that path. With six players averaging 8.0 points or more after three rounds, it is clear that Zalgiris’s main strength is the collective, as usual. The weak spot for Efes at this moment is under the glass with the second-lowest rebounding figure in the league. If Zalgiris controls the defensive boards and manages to run as it loves to do at home, it will have a good chance at win number four in its home opener.

Efes has had a rough start to the season and it should be no surprise as the best team from last season is missing its main star, Shane Larkin. However, against ALBA, Efes finally managed to pull out a win thanks to a big team effort including record numbers in the assists department. That should be the way for the team. Vasilije Micic, Simon and Tibor Pleiss are leading the collective effort for now and they will try to lead the charge again in Kaunas on Thursday.

Shane Larkin missed the first three games of the season due to injury.

Barcelona – Panathinaikos

The second round of this week will have a stop in Barcelona, Spain on Thursday when FC Barcelona (2-1) welcomes Panathinaikos OPAP Athens (1-1) for Round 3. Barcelona comes from a valuable road win in Valencia earlier this week despite missing one of its most important players, Nikola Mirotic, due to COVID-19. Panathinaikos’ game at ASVEL earlier in the week did not take place in the end due to COVID-19 causes and will therefore play its only game this week in Barcelona.

Barcelona didn’t exactly roll over Valencia, but it showed that the team knows how to deal with dangerous situations and even had an unexpected protagonist in Rolands Smits, who had a career night in the win. Barca might still be missing Mirotic against the Greens, but surely Nick Calathes, who played with Panathinaikos for eight seasons before, will have his motivation through the roof. Also, Kyle Kuric finally made his debut this season in Valencia, so expect him only to gain more confidence and rhythm as the season goes on.

Nikola Mirotic missed Round 3 game after testing positive for COVID-19 and will miss Round 4 game, too.

Panathinaikos arrives to Barcelona having not played earlier in the week, which could give the Greens a little edge in terms of tiredness, even if at this point of the season, teams need games fast to gel as soon as possible. The Greens missed a few key players in Round 2 such as Howard Sant-Roos or Aaron White, and will hope to keep adding wins with them coming back in the team, even if it looks like Lefteris Bochoridis won’t be available for this game either. Also, Pierre Jackson was just released. Panathinaikos has some of the best numbers in the league under the glass, so if the guests manage to take that control over the rebounds, they will have solid options to escape Barcelona with a win.

Pierre Jackson is no longer in the Greens’ roster.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-9.5) at 1.90 with bet365
