Euroleague Preview & Tips

The Euroleague Top 16 Round 9 opened on Wednesday with a clash of the top-scoring teams in the league: CSKA Moscow defeated Real Madrid 87-96 at Barclaycard Center in the Spanish capital. The main menu of the round is still to come on Thursday and Friday with 7 games being played.

Teams in red – Playing Thursday
Teams in green – Playing Friday

Group E

In Game of the Week on Thursday, Anadolul Efes Istanbul (3-5) plays at home against Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar (6-2). Efes has lost three in a row, while Lokomotiv has won its last three games. In each of those three wins it held opponents below 65 points, and has defense that holds opposing teams to 71.1 points and forces 15.2 turnovers – both best in the Top 16. First meeting of these two clubs in Round 2 was decided on the final possession, and Lokomotiv held on to 78-77 win. Offensively, Lokomotiv ranks first in the Top 16 in triples made (11.6), while Efes is third in that category for the season (9.6). This season, Efes is also second in three-point percentage (41.3%) and second in assists (20.1). This games also starts a final stretch of six Top 16 games for Efes, all of which it plays in Istanbul.

Cedevita Zagreb (2-6) hosts Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (2-6) in a game that both teams will try to use to get a win that will keep them in playoff contention. Cedevita has lost four in a row, and last three of those losses have come by 18, 20, and 23 points. In addition, Cedevita this season has 2-6 record on home floor, and in the Top 16 allows second-highest 84.5 points per night. But Cedevita beat Darussafaka in Round 2 in Istanbul 72-79, and hopes to sweep the series. Darussafaka is yet to win away from home in the Top 16, and leads this stage by committing 14.6 turnovers.

Unicaja Malaga (2-6) looks to snap its five-game losing streak when Panathinaikos Athens (5-3) pays a visit. Two teams have been trending in opposite directions as Panathinaikos has won four straight. Only two teams allow less than 73.3 points that Panathinaikos allows in the Top 16, and Unicaja will want to improve on its league-low 69 points and 32.1% three-point shooting, but is unmatched on the offensive glass and pulls down 14.1 offensive rebounds per night.

In a lone Friday game in this group, Fenerbahce Istanbul (7-1) looks to get back on the winning ways when it welcomes Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade (5-3) to the Asian side of Istanbul. It’s the fourth meeting between two teams this season, and Fenerbahce won each one of the previous three with at least a 14-point margin. However, Zvezda enters the game as the winner of 5 of the last 6 games. Its perimeter defense holds opponents to 29.8% three-point shooting, but it will be put to the test against Fenerbahce which shoots three-pointers in the Top 16 with second-best 42.1% accuracy. Fenerbahce is also the best in two-point percentages (57.3%), tied second in rebounding (35.4) in the Top 16, and will hope to exploit that against Zvezda which allows more offensive rebounds (13.9) than any other team in the Top 16.

Group F

On Thursday, in a pivotal game for both teams, Khimki Moscow Region (4-4) plays host to FC Barcelona Lassa (4-4). Two teams are tied in the fourth place, and Barcelona has won the first meeting between them 87-70. Khimki has lost three straight, but is 4-1 at home in the Top 16, and through eight games at this stage of the competition has second best scoring offense (85.4), ranks first in assists (20.6), and it is tied for second in rebounding (35.4). But Khimki’s defense also allows third-highest 84.4 points, and goes against Barcelona which ranks in top four with 40.3% three-point shooting, takes care of the ball better than any other team by committing only 11.1 turnovers, but has been 1-5 in last six road games.

In the first of two games on Friday, last place Zalgiris Kaunas (1-7) hosts Brose Baskets Bamberg (3-5). Zalgiris has struggled on both ends of the floor in the Top 16 so far. It allows the most points (87.5), it has league-low number for assists (13.8), three-pointers made (5.6), it ranks last in two-point shooting (43.9%), and scores third-lowest 72.8 points per night. On the other hand, Bamberg makes third-best 41.2% threes, and allows league-low 7.3 offensive rebounds to its opponents.

In the last game of the round, Olympiacos Piraeus faces a must-win situation when it hosts Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz. It’s fourth meeting between two sides this season, with the Reds winning last two. It is also 15th time these two teams play in the past 5 years, and Olympiacos holds 10-5 edge. Laboral has not won in Piraeus since 2007, but arrives for this one as the winner of last five games and in a share of the first place in the group. Olympiacos has lost 5 of the last 6 Euroleague games, and now faces Laboral which dominates Top 16 in rebounding (40.4), and holds opponents to lowest three-point shooting average (28.8%) and second lowest points (71.5).

Euroleague Tips with Previews – Thursday matches

Euroleague Basketball Predictions

The action in the Euroleague continues. We have almost completed the first third of the regular season and we can predict with more confidence on european basketball matches today. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games:

Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.

Alba Berlin – Barcelona

On Thursday night, Round 11 will feature a matchup between two teams at different ends of the spectrum as ALBA Berlin (3-7) hosts Barcelona (7-3). The 13th meeting between these two clubs in the EuroLeague this century will take place, with Barca winning 11 of the previous 12. Despite Jaleen Smith’s 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in a Round 10 loss to Olympiacos, ALBA has lost seven straight games since going 3-0 to open the season. With Jan Vesely scoring 18 points, Barcelona has won five of its previous six games, including its most recent victory over Baskonia, 96-84.

Few people would disagree that the reality is what it appears to be on paper. With the exception of turnovers and shooting percentages across the board, ALBA outperforms Barcelona in all significant statistical categories. Although they continue to lead the league in total rebounds (37.2) and assists (22.0), the hosts’ recent success has not been reflected in victories. The third-best league defence will force ALBA to put their offensive fireworks to the test. ALBA will also need to play tight on defence and work to reduce the 81.9 points it gives up per game. In order to try and end ALBA’s losing streak, players like Blatt, Olinde, and Sikma will have to stand up and help Smith in seizing the reins.

basketball prediction Tip: Under 160.5 at 1.90

Anadolu Efes – Olympiacos

At Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, Anadolu Efes (5-5) takes on Olympiacos (7-3) in a highly anticipated matchup. For the first time since the EuroLeague semifinals of last year, the teams square off. In that match, Vasilije Micic’s buzzer-beating three-pointer helped Efes defeat Olympiacos 74-77. Efes ultimately won the EuroLeague championship. Kostas Sloukas’ game-winning shot helped Olympiacos defeat Efes 87-85 in overtime earlier in the 2021–22 campaign. Expect a fantastic game with all the big characters still on their respective teams.

Efes is now on a three-game winning streak and may be in its finest shape of the year. Micic (18.2 ppg, 6.4 apg, 21.7) and Clyburn (20.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 22.3 PIR) have been the team’s leaders thus far this season, respectively placing first and second in terms of minutes played per game. In recent games, Efes has displayed a more diversified approach: Pleiss scored 13 points against EA7 Milan in Round 9, and Beaubois scored 19 points and had a PIR of 30 against Virtus Bologna in Round 10. With only 14.7 assists per night, Efes is tied for 15th in the league, thus there is room for growth during the season.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-4.5) at 1.95

Asvel Villeurbanne – Monaco

The Astroaballe will host the rematch between ASVEL Villeurbanne (3-7) and Monaco, two very familiar teams (7-3). Last season, these groups exchanged wins on the road in the EuroLeague. After Monaco defeated ASVEL 75-100 shortly after, ASVEL narrowly defeated Monaco 84-85 on a long buzzer-beating triple by Howard. Both teams advanced to the French League finals, when ASVEL defeated Monaco with a score of 3-2 after a tense playoff series.

Currently on a five-game losing streak in the EuroLeague, ASVEL is having trouble. Its primary pillars up until this point have been De Colo (12.3 ppg., 53.1% 3FG, 3.7 apg., 14.0 PIR), Mathews (10.8 ppg.), and Fall (10.5 ppg., 65.1% 2FG, 7.6 rpg., 14.4 PIR). Since ASVEL has only shot two points at 45.4% of its last five games, attacking the rim for simple baskets should be a priority for ASVEL when facing a run-and-gun team.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 157.5 at 1.87

Baskonia – Milano

Baskonia (5-5) welcomes EA7 Milan (7-3) in what should be an intriguing tactical matchup. Despite the fact that their initial encounter took place in 2009, this is their 22nd rendezvous. With a record of 11-10 against Baskonia, Milan won both of their meetings last year: 64-78 at Buesa Arena and 89-78 at Mediolanum Forum. Be prepared for a fierce basketball match.

Baskonia recently suffered a road setback to Barcelona but has played well at home this year, going 4-1 with Olympiacos Piraeus being the lone defeat. The home team leader in scoring (99.2 ppg) and PIR (113.2) is Baskonia, who also shoots the ball well (62.7% 2FG, 44.2% 2FG) and averages about 10 more points per game than any other team. Few teams can win at Buesa Arena if Baskonia maintains its regular home game numbers and plays at full throttle.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 at 2.90

Partizan – Valencia

When Partizan (4-6) hosts Valencia, there will be a match between two teams with the same record (4-6). LeDay put up a performance of 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, but Partizan’s trip to Spain last week ended in a defeat to Real Madrid. Although Valencia lost to Zalgiris at home, 76-80, despite Chris Jones’ 19 points and 7 assists, they also lost to Real previous week. Partizan and Valencia will be playing one other for the first time ever in the EuroLeague.

Partizan will use this as one of its main weapons against Valencia because it leads the league in three-point shooting accuracy at 41.1%. To increase their average of 14.7 assists, the hosts must watch the visitors’ aggressive defence (7.1 spg.) and work to improve ball circulation. Valencia ranks bottom in average blocks (1.3), thus there may be a chance for the hosts to earn their fifth victory in the paint.

basketball prediction Tip: Partizan Over 85.5 at 1.83

Do not get confused with basketball predictions

Bet365 and other bookmakers list the visitors in the NBA first. In LiveTipster.com we always list the home team first on our basketball predictions.

You can also check our football predictions today.

What basketball predictions do we provide?

We are confident to say that this is one of the most successful basketball prediction sites regarding the Euroleague (mainly), the EuroCup, the Basketball Champions League (by FIBA) and all major competitions in Europe (Spain ACB, Greece Basket League, Italy Serie A). But when the NBA is on, then we focus on NBA predictions.

We use a staking system that you are free to follow but it is for our own use. We normally increase the stake when we lose and decrease it when we lose.

What are the markets of our basketball predictions?

The advantage of offering basketball predictions on big games and popular leagues or tournaments is massive. There are more markets available and the information is greater and easier to reach.

However, just like in football predictions, it is better to work out which markets suit your style of play, which are you better at and try to concentrate on them.

This is what we do. We have a list of maximum 5-6 favourite markets that we usually choose from. Only in specific cases we would bet on markets out of our list and this helps in the consistency of our gaming style. It also keeps the odds within a narrow range which is great for the staking strategy we use.

So, without any further ado, our basketball predictions come from the following markets in a typical NBA or Euroleague game:

  • Money Line (home win or away win)
  • Spread (handicap points difference)

Euroleague Basketball Predictions

The action in the Euroleague regular season continues. We have learnt quite a lot of things about this years contestants after a few exciting games and we can predict with more confidence on european basketball matches today. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games:

Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.

Monaco – Bayern Munich

When Monaco (6-3) hosts Bayern Munich (3-6) for Round 10, two teams with different fortunes earlier in the week will clash. Monaco has a spotless 2-0 record versus Bayern so far in their EuroLeague meetings. In Round 9, Fenerbahce defeated Monaco 93-96 despite a significant comeback in the fourth quarter. Monaco’s top scorer and rebounder was Jordan Loyd (18 points). On the other hand, Bayern defeated ASVEL, 74-75, for its third victory of the year, powered by 13 points from Lucic.

Monaco, which had an erratic start to the season, has recently had some ups and downs and will attempt to prevent a double-round home sweep against Bayern. The stats suggest that Monaco takes care of the ball better than any other club, as they lead the league in steals per game (8.8) and lowest turnovers (9.8). Since Bayern performs better from the free-throw line and also knows how to preserve their glass, the hosts will want to prevent a close game. The hosts are performing well overall and boast one of the league’s most lethal backcourts with Loyd, Mike James, and Okobo. They must keep an eye out for Winston and Weiler-Babb in particular.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 156.5 at 1.90

Panathinaikos – Asvel Villeurbanne

Panathinaikos (3-6) meets ASVEL Villeurbanne (3-6), two teams whose respective games on Wednesday ended in dramatic way, prepare for another matchup just 48 hours later.

Derrick Williams shone with 26 points for Panathinaikos in their recent 88-85 overtime victory over Virtus Bologna. Late in the extra period, Williams hit a critical three-pointer to give the Greens a decisive lead. Wolters scored 18 points, Lee had 15, and Panathinaikos hit 13 of them with a 44.8% accuracy rate. In this home game, the Greens seek to maintain their impressive shooting form.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-6.5) at 1.90

Barcelona – Baskonia

At Palau Blaugrana, Barcelona (6-3) will welcome Baskonia (5-4) in a rematch of two familiar teams. Laprovittola (15.2 ppg), Sanli (8.9 ppg), and Satoransky, three former Baskonia guards, helped Barca win four of its most recent five games (7.8 ppg.). Following a 20-point victory over Zalgiris at home, Baskonia hopes to maintain its momentum. The leading scorer for Baskonia has been Howard (15.6 ppg), who is followed by Thompson (12.6 ppg) and Kotsar (11.8 ppg.).

Barca averages just 14.6 free throw attempts each game, which is not a lot. Barca has also connected on 36.9% of its downtown shots. Now that Kuric, a talented three-point shooter, is back with the squad, that percentage ought to increase. Kuric provides Barca with yet another tool to deploy against Marinkovic and Giedraitis in the backcourt. To balance its offence, Barca has to locate Tobey and Vesely inside. Vesely and Sanli must be active on defence against Costello, a large player with limitless mobility who has just improved his physical condition.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 161.5 at 1.90

Virtus Bologna – Anadolu Efes

In a sold-out arena, Virtus Bologna (4-5) will welcome the two-time defending champions Anadolu Efes (4-5) in an effort to defend its home court. The champions of the previous season’s EuroCup and EuroLeague square off, with Virtus and Efes meeting for the first time in a competitive match in more than 20 years.

Regarding the outcomes of their earlier games this week, the two sides enter this match in diametrically opposed moods. After suffering a heartbreaking 88-85 overtime loss to Panathinaikos on Wednesday, Virtus returns home. Early in the game, Virtus had a substantial lead and needed to come back to force OT. Prior to losing, it led for the majority of the extra session again. Last year’s EuroCup MVP Jaiteh shone with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (+2.5) at 1.90

Valencia – Zalgiris

When Zalgiris Kaunas (5-4) visits Valencia (4-5), both clubs will be looking to complete this double-round with at least one victory. This is the tenth meeting between these two clubs in the EuroLeague, with Valencia holding a 6-3 advantage overall. Despite Van Rossom’s 17 points and 3 assists on Tuesday, Valencia lost to Real Madrid 73-80 at home. Despite Ulanovas scoring 18 points, Zalgiris lost to Baskonia by a score of 93-73 on Wednesday.

In most statistics, both teams’ numbers appear to be very close on paper. For instance, Valencia scores 0.3 more points per game than the next team. The average PIR difference is also in Zalgiris’ favour. In terms of shooting accuracy across the board, Zalgiris outperforms Valencia, while Valencia does better in terms of assists, steals, and turnovers. One of these two teams will be able to successfully complete the double-round week on Friday night, so it appears that everything will come down to the little things.

basketball prediction Tip: Winning Margin 3-way Any Other Result (1-5 points difference) at 2.60
