Euroleague Basketball Predictions
The first week of the Euroleague regular season is here, and it will be an exciting one. There are a few new teams, some old favourites and -most importantly- many great games ahead. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for the first week:

Crvena Zvezda – Panathinaikos
Due to the fact that both Crvena Zvezda and Panathinaikos Athens lost their EuroLeague debuts, one of the two teams’ records will be 0-2 at the conclusion of Round 2.
Zvezda suffered a road defeat to the defending champion Anadolu Efes by the score of 72–59. The only other Zvezda player to reach double figures was their big man Ben Bentil, who finished with 13 points. Coming off the bench, Nikola Ivanovic finished with 9 points and 5 assists. Zvezda was unable to compete more effectively due to injuries and last-minute absences; despite being listed on the team’s starting lineup, Holland and Kuzmic did not participate.
Tip: Under 146.5 at 1.90
Barcelona – Real Madrid
It is always a special occasion when Barcelona (0-1) and Real Madrid (1-0) face off, and their Round 2 matchup at Palau Blaugrana will be the earliest El Clásico ever in the EuroLeague. It is a great chance for one of the Spanish powerhouses to set the tone for the upcoming season because both clubs had never met this early in the EuroLeague season.
However, things did not go according to plan for Barcelona as it lost its home opener to Olympiacos by a score of 70–80. Laprovittola scored 16 points to lead the home team, and Higgins (11) and Kalinic (10), both of whom scored in double digits, but Barca was unable to stay up with the Reds in the fourth quarter. In Round 1, Barca’s Kalinic, Vesely, and Tobey all competed in their maiden EuroLeague match, while Satoransky returned to the league after a seven-year absence. Barca and its new star players will be determined to turn the tables and exact revenge on Real for their Spanish Super Cup loss.

Monaco – Anadolu Efes
As AS Monaco (1-0) welcomes Anadolu Efes (1-0) for a prestigious home opener in the principality, two dynamic teams with quality to spare at all positions will battle to remain unbeaten.
Monaco defeated Efes by 22 last season after falling to them by 21 in Istanbul. Finishing near the rim made a difference in those games. Monaco only tried 7 free throws and shot just 47.1% from the field throughout the loss. These percentages were 67.4% and 17-for-21 in the triumph, with Mike James making 10 of 12 free throws by himself. Despite the presence of defensive ace Bryant Dunston, James and his teammates benefited from challenging Efes in the paint as three-pointers for Moanco fell at roughly the same percentage on both nights.

Virtus Bologna – Bayern
Virtus Segafredo Bologna will host Bayern Munich. Both clubs will be seeking their first win of the year after falling to Monaco and Fenerbahce, respectively, the previous week.
When Virtus lost to Monaco, one of the primary areas in which it struggled was its three-point shooting, as it converted only 4 of its 21 tries. Iffe Lundberg shot 50% from beyond the arc while making 2 three-pointers for himself, but many of his teammates had trouble getting into a routine from that distance. With 14 turnovers, Virtus also had trouble keeping the ball in their possession. If Virtus wants to win its opening game of the season against a Bayern side that is recognized for having intelligent defensive players like Nick Weiler-Babb and Othello Hunter, it needs to get better in these two areas.
