Euroleague Tips with Previews – Friday matches

Euroleague Basketball Predictions

The action in the Euroleague regular season continues with “double week” action. We have learnt quite a lot of things about this years contestants after a few exciting games and we can predict with more confidence on european basketball matches today. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games:

Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.

Fenerbahce – Baskonia

In Round 14 on Friday in Istanbul, Baskonia (8-5) will travel to Fenerbahce (10-3) in search of its second victory in Turkey this week. Since 2002, these two teams have faced off 34 times in the EuroLeague, with the home team currently holding a razor-thin 17-16 edge. Despite Edwards’ 13 points, Fenerbahce is coming off a crushing 94-67 loss to Olympiacos Piraeus on Tuesday. Johnathan Motley, a significant contributor for Fener, is out injured. In contrast, Baskonia defeated the defending champions Efes on the road, 78-83, thanks to Markus Howard’s 19 points on 5 of 9 three-pointers.

Despite a disappointing loss to Olympiacos, Fenerbahce is the only team in the lead. However, Baskonia has won its previous three games and has the second-best offence in the league. It is still the league’s best club when shooting outside the arc (40.2%). (86.0 ppg.). The visitors also perform a better job than Fenerbahce under the rim (only 11.1 turnovers), according to the stats.

Due to the nearly similar PIR averages of the two sides, it appears that the outcome of the game will depend on the finer points. Morale may play a role, and earlier this week, Baskonia undoubtedly saw a significant lift. Fenerbahce suffered a terrible loss, but it can also serve as inspiration to get out to a better start and maintain its composure in front of its home supporters. As the second- and third-best offences in the league square Saturday, anticipate an offensive clash since both teams are producing quality shooting opportunities.

Barcelona – Panathinaikos

Barcelona will host Panathinaikos in a matchup that marks the 31st meeting between the two storied EuroLeague clubs this century, who have won a combined eight continental championships. Earlier this week, Barca (9-4) defeated Monaco 63-69 on the road behind Nikola Mirotic’s 15 points. At Valencia, the Greens (6-7) lost in overtime, 94-91.

Barcelona will try to imitate the stifling defence shown in Monaco, which eventually allowed for improved offence as eight different three-point shooters helped the team win. Keeping opponents to 49.1% two-point and 33.9% three-point shooting, which are first and second in both categories, is the foundation of Barcelona’s success. The defensive game strategy won’t change much because Panathinaikos is a comparable opponent, and the hosts will be challenging to stop on their own court if they act as they did 48 hours ago because they have so many players who can contribute offensively.

After such a painful setback in Valencia, Panathinaikos, which has recently won four of five games, will be motivated to save the double-round week. Derek Williams will face Mirotic on Friday, and while Dwayne Bacon (71.1 ppg) heated up late in that game, he will be required early and frequently for offence. When playing against a Barca defence that also allows the fewest assists from its opponents, the Greens will need Nate Wolters and Paris Lee to plan their offence precisely (12.1). In this game, quality shots will be hard to come by, so the Panathinaikos playmakers must create as many as they can for their teammates.

Partizan – Anadolu Efes

When Partizan (4-9) welcomes two-time defending champion Anadolu Efes (7-6) to Stark Arena, where the Turkish powerhouse won its second EuroLeague championship little over six months ago, everything is set for another celebration of basketball in the Serbian capital. This matchup, which has tremendous significance for both sides, will mark the first time these two squads have played each other in an official game in more than ten years. It has the potential to be an attacking battle.

Partizan will strive to break its five-game losing streak with the help of its devoted fans after losing each of its last three games by four points or less. With a league-high five double-doubles and averages of 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds, Lessort has been a powerful force in the post, but Coach Zeljko Obradovic’s team has struggled defensively. Partizan’s opponents score an average of 87.4 points per game, shooting 60.2% two-pointers and 39.2% three-pointers, both league highs.

Despite facing two of the league’s top scorers in Clyburn (20.0 ppg) and Micic (18.2 ppg) this season, Partizan will need to step up its defensive effort. Only 48 hours after having its own five-game winning streak ended on Wednesday at home against Baskonia, Efes will be anxious to get back on track. The league leaders in turnover generation (10.8 per game) and offensive rebounding (7.5 per game) would want to produce more turnovers and increase their turnover rate, respectively.

Virtus Bologna – Maccabi

When Virtus Bologna (5-8) welcomes Maccabi Tel Aviv, two groups hoping for their second victory of this double-round week are scheduled to compete (7-6). There hasn’t been a match between the two clubs since their last encounter in March 2003, despite the fact that they first played each other 19 times starting in 1976. In Strasbourg, France, Maccabi defeated Virtus 80-79 to claim the 1981 EuroLeague championship, the second in club history.

Both clubs have seen ups and downs this season, and Virtus will look to build on Wednesday’s 85-76 victory over ALBA Berlin in this contest. With that victory on its home court, Virtus broke a four-game losing streak, and it will be well-positioned to secure another triumph that would move it closer to the centre of the standings.

As part of a three-day trip across Italy, Maccabi is coming off its first road victory of the year, a come-from-behind 71-77 victory over the last-place EA7 Milan on Tuesday. In the contest, Sorkin led Maccabi in scoring with 14 points , while Brown finished with 20 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds to lead the team in scoring.

basketball prediction Tip: Winning Margin 3-way – Any Other Result (1-5 points) at 2.65

Monaco – Alba Berlin

In the final match of this double-round week, Monaco (9-4) will face ALBA Berlin (3-10) in an effort to rapidly shake off the setback it suffered at home on Wednesday. The team’s second loss in six home games this season, all of which have been decided by eight points or fewer, came in a 63-69 loss to Barcelona.

Although Monaco’s defence limited the opposition to fewer than 70 points for the first time since the start of the season, it was insufficient because the team’s explosive offence was also limited to fewer than 70 points for the first time this year. Now that ALBA is allowing 84.3 points per game, second most in the league, Mike James and company will try to regain their groove.

However, ALBA will be searching for solutions in this match since the squad is presently on a 10-game losing skid and is tied for the lowest record in the league going into Round 14. In its most recent loss, 85-76 to Virtus Segafredo Bologna, ALBA had four players score in double figures, led by Luke Sikma’s 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Jaleen Smith added 14 points.

basketball prediction Tip: Monaco Over 89.5 at 2.30
