Anadolu Efes – Unics Kazan

  • Efes holds A 3-1 lead in head-to-head games against UNICS in the EuroLeague this century.

Defending champion Anadolu Efes Istanbul (0-4) looks for its first win of the season against UNICS Kazan (1-3) in Round 5 in a highly-anticipated showdown in which both teams look to bounce back from recent struggles. Efes comes off a 75-71 road loss against still-undefeated AX Armani Exchange Milan. Shane Larkin had 13 points plus 9 rebounds, Adrien Moerman scored 12 and Filip Petrusev 10 points in the loss. No other defending champion has had a 0-4 start in EuroLeague history.

Isaiah Canaan led the way with 21 points, Lorenzo Brown added 17 and Mario Hezonja had 15 for UNICS, which then went on to fall 80-41 at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Zalgiris – Bayern

  • Bayern leads Zalgiris 4-3 in head-to-head meetings between the teams.

After they both started the season 0-4, either Zalgiris Kaunas or FC Bayern Munich is certain to taste its first victory on Thursday night. The Lithuanian champs have had a rocky start that included a coaching change with Jure Zdovc stepping in before Round 3. Meanwhile, Bayern has been plagued by injuries and two of its four losses have come by a single score. Last season both games between them were won by the home team by a single point. Both teams have reasons for optimism this week. Zalgiris’s big summer signing Emmanuel Mudiay comes off his best game of the season with 19 points against Olympiacos Piraeus, while Bayern sharpshooter Andreas Obst made his debut over the weekend in the German League.
