Anadolu Efes – Milano
In recent years, Efes has been one of the league’s best three-point shooting teams, but an off night in Milan lost them the game. Efes went 8 for 31 from three-point range (25.8%), with Larkin and Micic failing from beyond the arc. The former was 3 for 9 on the field, while the reigning MVP was 2 for 11. Despite this, the duo combined for 37 points, with no other Efes player scoring more than 7. Efes will be in a good position if the threes start falling again for Larkin, Micic, and the rest of the team.
It was reasonable to doubt Milan’s ability to stay up with Efes on the boards after Melli’s injury. In Game 2, Milan not only outrebounded Efes 40-32, but also allowed only three offensive boards to Coach Ataman’s team. Five Milan players grabbed at least four rebounds, with small forward Shavon Shields leading the way with eight. Although Milan outperformed Efes in many other ways to win Game 2, like scoring more three-pointers and committing fewer mistakes, Coach Messina’s team would benefit greatly from controlling the glass in Istanbul.

Maccabi – Real Madrid
Maccabi shot the ball brilliantly from the perimeter in the first two games of the series in Madrid, but battled terribly in the paint. Real blocked five shots in each game, and its towering big men held the Israeli champions to only 39.7% two-point shooting. Real grabbed 13 offensive rebounds in Game 2 and converted them into 21 points. Zizic, Reynolds, Sorkin, and Williams will have to turn things around on the inside to improve the team’s chances at home.
Real attempted the second-most threes in the league this season (27.0 per game in the regular season), but its conversion rate of 35.1 percent was below the league average. Maccabi’s three-point defense, on the other hand, has been among the worst in the league, allowing the second-most threes (9.7 per game) with the third-highest conversion rate (37.8%) throughout the regular season. Between Games 1 and 2, Real made 30 threes for a 46.9% success rate. Between the two games, Causeur has a 6-8 record, while Sergio Llull has a 5-9 record. A series sweep could be in the cards if Los Blancos can shoot like that in Tel Aviv.
