Panathinaikos – Real Madrid
When Panathinaikos welcomes Real Madrid to OAKA in Athens, two European classic clubs with a combined 16 EuroLeague titles (6 and 10) will battle once more in the EuroLeague.
The numbers indicate that Panathinaikos will struggle against the Spaniards. Except for turnovers and free-throw shooting, the visitors exceed them on all fronts. The Greens have had a quiet season and will seek to put on a good show against one of the league’s best teams at home. To do so, they’ll need to find strong choices to help them improve their three-point shooting, which is now ranked third in the league (33.4 percent ). This season, Okaro (39.4 percent) has been the leading guy in that department, but the hosts will need players like Nedovic and Macon to step up and lead the assault from the perimeter.
Real Madrid’s season has been steady, and despite losing three of its previous five games, it is still strong in second place, having already won a playoff berth. Los Blancos will try to gain homecourt advantage as quickly as possible, and they have the numbers to back them up. Real leads the league in defensive rebounds, total rebounds, and blocks, with Tavares and Poirier showing to be one of the league’s top big men. It’s never easy to play at OAKA, and Panathinaikos has nothing to lose this time, so the visitors will have to dazzle once more if they want to finish in the top four at the end of the regular season.

Maccabi – ASVEL Villeurbanne
The hosts are in a good place, having won four of their past five games and are about to confirm a playoff berth. Playing at home only helps Maccabi, therefore this game will be a good chance to advance to the next round. Maccabi is only in the top three in the league in steals (7.3 per game) and free-throw shooting (81.6 percent), but it is ahead of ASVEL on all fronts except blocks. Wilbekin, Nunnally, and Reynolds have been on a roll recently, and they’ll be the basic foundation for a Maccabi team that appears to have regained its rhythm.
ASVEL’s winning streak appears to have come to an end after losing nine of their last ten games. Jones and Okobo, who surprised many at the start of the season, are still leading the charge for ASVEL, but the rest of the club will need to step up if ASVEL is to win in such a fiery venue as ‘Menora Mivtachim.’ For an ASVEL squad that ranks 11th and 13th in two-point and three-point shooting percentages, offensive rebounds (8.7 orpg., ranked 18th) are a major issue. The visitors are also 17th in total rebounds, so paying attention to those boards in order to improve their offensive possibilities should be a priority for them.

Milano – Monaco
The hosts are coming off a home-court advantage in the playoffs earlier this week, so the situation alters drastically when they face this opponent. Monaco has won four of its past five games, and a win in Milan would put the team in a position to advance, so the hosts must keep a watch on team leaders James, Hall, and Motiejunas. Meanwhile, coach Ettore Messina will most likely begin distributing minutes evenly among all players in order to maintain the starting unit as sharp as possible for the following phase.
Monaco’s first season in the EuroLeague has been nothing short of spectacular, and a victory in Milan could put the team in a strong position to extend that run into the playoffs. The visitors currently have the greatest offence in the league, as well as the fourth best average PIR and third best three-point shooting %. The fact that Milan has earned home-court advantage in the playoffs, on the other hand, should not make the visitors feel at ease in any way, especially with such a significant prize on the line.
