Fenerbahce – Monaco

With Jasikevicius leading the Yellow Canaries, Fenerbahce (6-7) hosts Monaco (8-5) in the opening encounter in Istanbul. This is a matchup between two clubs vying for the championship. On Thursday, Saras succeeded Dimitris Itoudis. Fenerbahce was undefeated at Ulker Sports and Event Hall (5-0) under Itoudis. Nigel Hayes-Davis, the only player for Fenerbahce to have started every game and played all but 100 seconds of the team’s Round 13 loss at Barcelona, will be looked on by the new manager to continue leading the team. With a hard-fought victory at Zalgiris last time out, Mike James once again proved his significance with 25 points, helped by 12 and 4 assists from backcourt partner Okobo. Monaco has won three of the previous four games.

Olympiacos – Valencia

Valencia (7-6) faces Olympiacos (7-6) on the road in a matchup between two of the five clubs tied for sixth place. After getting back on track with two wins in the double-round week, Valencia has the difficult challenge of attempting to make it three in a row. In the last four games, Thomas Walkup has established himself as the Reds’ leader by scoring at least 14 points and throwing out seven assists, which helped the team defeat Bayern in Round 13. Semi Ojeleye, who scored 17 and 16 points in the victories over Zvezda and ASVEL, respectively, helped Valencia get back to winning ways. In the latter game, the Spanish team’s defence clicked, allowing just 55 points. The Reds have an all-time record of 11-3 versus Valencia, but the previous five times this series has been won by home clubs, so Valencia is also looking for its third straight victory in Piraeus.

Barcelona – Milano

Struggling Milan (4-9) visits Barcelona (10-3), a team that hopes to hold in second place and make it eight wins in a row at home. Due to Nikola Mirotic’s injury, the Italian squad has lost three straight games. As a result, pressure will be on Johannes Voigtmann (7.9 points and 3.7 rebounds) and Nicolo Melli (6.2 points and 4.3 rebounds) to replicate their scoring and rebounding repertoires. Last week’s victory over Fenerbahce at home was led by Willy Hernangomez, who scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Hernangomez has now scored 12 points or more in four straight games and teams up with the reliable Jan Vesely to form a potent tag-team big man combination.
