Euroleague Basketball Predictions

The action in the Euroleague continues. We have now completed the first third of the regular season and we can predict with more confidence on european basketball matches today. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games:

Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.

Panathinaikos – Milan

On Thursday at OAKA stadium in Athens, Panathinaikos (5-6) hosts Milan (3-8), two teams with recent trends in opposition, square off. Four of the Greens’ previous five games have ended in victories, including three straight at home. Milan has lost seven straight games mainly due to injuries, tying its worst losing streak in the EuroLeague this century.

Panathinaikos’ recent victories saw them allow 67 and 58 points, which are season highs for the team’s defence under head coach Dejan Radonjic. In each of those contests, five or more shooters connected on three-pointers, enabling the Greens move up to seventh place (38.0%) in three-point shooting efficiency. The big guns for Panathinaikos are Dwayne Bacon (18.5 ppg) and Derrick Williams (15.7), and if either player is at their best, this club can compete on the hishest level. Watch out if they are both.

The inability to rebound has been a problem for both sides. No team has outrebounded opponents less times than Panathinaikos (38.1 rpg.). Milan is the next team in that category with 37.5 rpg., but has only done it once in 11 games. Both sides have done a good job of guarding their own boards, but they have not contributed much on offence. Because of this, Panathinaikos and Milan have both allowed  more offensive rebounds than they have managed to grab on their own offensive glass. We chose a high-scoring game here with that in mind.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 152.5 at 2.00

Alba Berlin – Fenerbahce

In an intriguing matchup in the German capital, Fenerbahce (9-2) faces off against ALBA Berlin (3-8). ALBA has lost its last eight games after a 3-0 start. Fenerbahce remains in first place after last week’s home loss to Real Madrid. The last two times ALBA has visited Berlin, it has defeated Fenerbahce.

ALBA lifts its offensive by relying on its passing game. With 21.5 assists per game, Israel Gonzalez’s squad leads the EuroLeague. This year, Luke Sikma has averaged 6.4 assists per game as ALBA’s primary offensive conduit. To increase their chances of winning this game, the German champions must involve their numerous shooters, particularly Maodo Lo and Gabriele Procida. ALBA must stop Calathes and Hazer from controlling the game’s tempo on defence.

It will be difficult for Alba to win, but the handicap might not be covered.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (+3.5) at 1.90

Maccabi – Valencia

Maccabi hosts Valencia in a matchup of two teams that are on the outside looking toward the playoff zone. Despite losing two straight games, Maccabi (5-6) has been one of the best teams at home this season, going 5-1 when playing at Menorah Mivtachim Arena. Valencia (5-6) just defeated Partizan in overtime and has a 3-2 winning road record this year.

Maccabi’s go-to player Lorenzo Brown (18.1 ppg, 6.5 apg) might have more support this week as Baldwin (15.6 ppg) and Hilliard are anticipated to return after missing Friday’s setback in Munich. Adams made a commendable transition, setting a personal best with 21 points in his debut EuroLeague game, and may be entitled to a bigger role moving ahead.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (+5.5) at 1.90

Partizan – Crvena Zvezda

In front of a sold-out crowd of 16,745 spectators at Stark Arena in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, Partizan (4-7) plays Crvena Zvezda (5-6) in one of the fiercest cross-town rivalries in sports.

Partizan enters the game in need of a victory after suffering back-to-back losses in which it scored at least 96 points but allowed more than 100 to its opponents, giving it the league’s worst defence (88.1 oppg.). Although Partizan attempts fewer long-range shots than 15 other teams, they are aggressive enough to rank second in both free throw success (16.9) and accuracy at the foul line (84.2%), where they are first in three-point efficiency (39.8%). Punter (15.9 ppg), Nunnally (11.2) and Exum (11.2) will likely handle the ball inside, followed by Lessort (12.7) and LeDay (13.9) on the outside. However, what they all do defensively may have a greater impact.

basketball prediction Tip: Partizan Over 83.5 at 1.83

Real Madrid – Monaco

Real Madrid (8-3) and Monaco (8-3) will face off against one another at the WiZink Center. Real is on a six-game winning streak following its lone home loss to Virtus Bologna in Round 5. After losing four straight meetings, the most recent coming at home in double OT, 84-90, last season, Monaco has won its previous two contests and is prepared to battle for its first-ever win over Los Blancos.

Real is crucial to getting the ball moving in transition since it leads the league in defensive rebounding (26.7 drpg.) and is second in blocked shots (4.0 bpg.). Connecting with Tavares and Poirier should be crucial in this game because Real ranks third in two-point shooting (58.5% 2FG) and has a size advantage in the paint at the “5” position. Abalde, Williams-Goos, and Hanga should all be utilised while playing a high-scoring club in order to halt Mike James.
