UNICS Kazan – Crvena Zvezda
UNICS had three consecutive losses before rebounding back last week to defeat Zalgiris in Kaunas. UNICS dominated the boards with 15 offensive rebounds and 12 steals in the victory. All season, dominating the hustle numbers has been a successful formula for UNICS. It leads the league in thefts per game (9.4 per game) and has also caused the most turnovers (15.3 per game). Furthermore, UNICS has held opponents to 32.4 percent shooting from downtown, which is the league’s second-best mark. When these teams last played in Round 12, UNICS erupted for 98 points, but even if it cannot score as easily this time, dominating the hustle metrics might be vital for UNICS.
Zvezda lost twice in a row in Belgrade last week after surprising Olympiacos in Round 23 in Piraeus. Getting back on track in Kazan will be difficult. It will be difficult to outgun UNICS, but Zvezda has the means to slow the game, take good care of the ball, and make a difference on the boards. Zvezda ranks seventh in the league in offensive rebounds (10.7 per game) and boasts seasoned leaders in Nate Wolters, Nikola Ivanovic, and Nikola Kalinic to counter UNICS’ defensive pressure. Zvezda is no stranger to all-out effort, and that is exactly what will be required to defeat UNICS in Kazan.
Tip: 1 (-6.5) at 1.90 with bet365
ASVEL Villeurbanne – Panathinaikos
ASVEL Lighty finally returns in action and eager to support his club, according to Villeurbanne. Because Okobo, Howard, and Diot are still out, Jones and Lacombe will divide the point guard responsibilities. Lighty and Knight, who is coming off his finest game of the season (21 points, 12 rebounds, 30 PIR versus Anadolu Efes), should receive the most of the wing action. ASVEL surrenders 79.7 points per game on average, enabling opponents to shoot a league-high 57.3 percent from inside the arc. Better paint defence and rebounding the ball on defence might be the first steps toward improving its defensive stats.
In this game, Panathinaikos is counting on Nedovic and Macon to make the difference. Because the Greens are missing Papapetrou, Sant-Roos and Okaro White could see more playing time versus ASVEL. Panathinaikos should take use of its size advantage with Evans and, in particular, Papagiannis around the basket. The Greens are averaging 14.3 assists per game this season, which ranks them 16th in the league, but that figure jumps to 18.8 (sixth in the league) when they win. Panathinaikos might have a better chance of winning its first away game this season if Lefteris Bochoridis keeps Jones from hitting the hoop.

Real Madrid – Barcelona
Following a setback on Tuesday in which it achieved just 51 points, and having previously lost to Barcelona this season, Real must come out firing in the great derby. This squad averages 71.5 points per game this season, which is the second-lowest in the league, but its worst defensive performance of the season occurred in Round 14, when it conceded 93 points to Barcelona. It was also one of the few games this season in which Real lost the rebounding battle. Real is the strongest rebounding club in the league, averaging 38.2 per game, and it has to display similar dominance against its opponent.
Barcelona has defeated Madrid twice this season, once at home in Round 14 and again on the road in late January in the Spanish League. Barcelona showed excellent patience on offence in each of those games, employing outstanding ball movement to locate open shooters but also to generate opportunities that allowed the squad go to the free-throw line frequently. Moving the ball properly will again be crucial for Barcelona in the El Clásico.
