The action in the Euroleague regular season continues with “double week” action. We have learnt quite a lot of things about this years contestants after a few exciting games and we can predict with more confidence on european basketball matches today. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for today’s games:
Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.
Anadolu Efes – Baskonia
Anadolu Efes, the two-time defending champion in the EuroLeague, will face Baskoni on Wednesday in a matchup between two clubs with a combined record of 7-5. Efes has won five straight games, including a 26-point rout of Zalgiris last week in Kaunas. Four of those victories were by double digit margins.
Confident Efes will take on a club that enters the Sinan Erdem Arena full of its own confidence. Efes is hopeful that Shane Larkin will return shortly. Although Baskonia won its last two games by a combined margin of 41 points, both victories were on its home court. Baskonia has dropped its last four games, with three of those defeats coming by a score of 12 points or more.
Tip: 1 (-8.5) at 1.90
Monaco – Barcelona
Barcelona (8-4) and Monaco (9-3) square off at Salle Gaston Medecin. The former has moved up into second position in the EuroLeague standings, while the latter has fallen to fifth place following a loss in Round 12.
Following an amazing overtime victory at Real Madrid, the team’s third straight win, Monaco is bursting with confidence in front of Barca’s arrival. However, Monaco will be without one of its starting guards due to the significant face injury Jordan Loyd sustained at the conclusion of the fourth quarter. Given Loyd’s absence, Mike James, who scored 28 points against Real, will be joined by Okobo in the backcourt. Okobo, who has worn a Monaco shirt thus far and averaged 12.3, 1.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, is ready to start his first game of the year. Another impressive victory, this time over Barca, would be the ideal way for Monaco to open the double-round week as they now hold the second-best record in the EuroLeague.
Tip: Winning Margin 3-way Any Other Result (1-5 points difference) at 2.65
Virtus Bologna – Alba Berlin
Virtus Bologna (4-8) hosts ALBA Berlin (3-9) for the first time in this century after a long wait of more than 24 years. In their most recent meeting, ALBA defeated Virtus 75–72. After a 3-0 start, ALBA is currently on a nine-game losing streak. After losing to Olympiacos by 46 points in the previous Round, Virtus is looking to avenge that defeat.
If Virtus wishes to be more competitive, turnovers must be reduced. At 15.1 per night, it comes in second place, just below ALBA (15.7 per game). It has to increase ball circulation because its assist-to-turnover ratio is low (1.14), and everything starts with its point guards, Teodosic, Pajola, and Mannion. With Shengelia returning, Virtus has a tonne of extra offensive options and a solid defensive choice to thwart Sikma, ALBA’s major offensive danger owing to his passing prowess.
Tip: Over 162.5 at 1.90
