Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.

Panathinaikos – Virtus Bologna

On Wednesday night, Panathinaikos (2-6) will host Virtus Bologna (4-4) at the OAKA Stadium in Athens. The Greens have won just one of their past six matches, while Virtus has won three of its last four.

With its summer recruits still gelling on the court, Panathinaikos and first-year head coach Dejan Radonjic’s season has not started as they had hoped. There have been hints of a spark, such as Dwayne Bacon’s 20-point performance in Round 8, but after losing 107-77 on the road to Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, Panathinaikos needs to respond quickly. If the Greens want to send Virtus home dissatisfied, they’ll need to improve on their second-to-last defensive record on their home court, where they defeated Baskonia 98-83 in Round 7 to snap a four-game losing streak.

Asvel Villeurbanne – Bayern Munich

At the Astroballe, two teams that have recently lost face off. Round 9 features an intriguing matchup between Bayern Munich and ASVEL Villeurbanne (3-5). (2-6). In front of its supporters, ASVEL will attempt to bounce back after dropping its last two games. After a 0-5 start, Bayern won three straight matches before falling to Olympiacos Piraeus at home in Round 8. As of last season, Bayern has a 4-2 record against ASVEL in EuroLeague games. Augustine Rubit scored 17 points to help Bayern win both of their meetings in those games, 73-65 in Munich and 68-77 on the road.

Finding a second scorer in the paint to support Youssoupha Fall in the low post is a challenge for ASVEL. Although ASVEL is making less than half of their two-point attempts (48.8%), Fall has been successful (65.6% 2FG). The home team’s perimeter players, Nando De Colo (47.5% 2FG, David Lighty 47.5%, and Charles Kahudi 45.5%), David Lighty, and Charles Kahudi, must be more productive for ASVEL’s attack to be less predictable and give Fall an even better chance to continue converting easy baskets close to the hoop.

Baskonia – Zalgiris

In what has been a meeting of two of the EuroLeague’s surprise teams so far this season, Baskonia (4-4) welcomes Zalgiris (5-3) at Buesa Arena in Vitoria.

With a quick 3-0 start with several first-year players showcasing their skills, including Howard, Thompson, and Kotsar, Baskonia emerged as the side to watch in the early stages of the season. The club has since lost four straight games, with its lone triumph coming against Maccabi in a rout at home. On its home court, where it is 3-1, Baskonia will once again be able to rely on its constant home support. Baskonia lost 79-74 on the road against Monaco.
