ALBA Berlin – Bayern Munich

  • Bayern has won all three previous games against ALBA in EuroLeague play, including two in overtime.

One of the big national derbies of the season opens Round 7 in the German capital as ALBA Berlin (2-4) and visiting FC Bayern Munich (2-4) fight over a victory that will get one of them nearer to the middle of the pack in the standings. These teams have only played three times before at the EuroLeague level, and Bayern won all three, including twice on ALBA’S court at Mercedes-Benz Arena, including last season by 18 points as current players Nick Weiler-Babb and Vladimir Lucic combined for 29 points. Two years ago, current ALBA guard Maodo Lo scored 13 for Bayern in an overtime win in Berlin. Their last game, in Munich, went to OT, as well, so expect anything in this first German derby of the season.

Maccabi – Barcelona

  • Barcelona holds 16-11 record against Maccabi this century, but Maccabi has won the last three games.

The EuroLeague’s only remaining unbeaten team, FC Barcelona (6-0), visits a hot Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv (4-2) on Thursday for a game in which one or the other will lose a streak. Barcelona’s perfect run was in doubt on Tuesday until Nikola Mirotic hit a buzzer-beater at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. The same night, Maccabi won a third straight game by its biggest margin this season, 14 points, over undermanned Zalgiris Kaunas. Barca leads their series this century by 11-16 but Maccabi has won their last three meetings and five of the last seven. Maccabi will not be intimidated on its own court, where Barca has not prevailed in almost five years.
