Barcelona are coming from the worst possible outcome against Real Madrid; they lost 1-2 from a 10-men Real Madrid after taking the lead with Pique. It wasn’t just that but also  disallowed goal by Bale that is still a mystery why it did not count! Barcelona could say they focused on today’s game, but they played at full strength. There will be only one change today. Ter Stegen is back in goal but that is a common thing in the tournament.

The Blaugrana are 6 points clear in the Spanish league from 2nd placed Atletico. They cannot play safe in the Primera Division any more but the advantage gives them the opportunity to concentrate fully on the Champions League games.

Barcelona has 6 straight wins against Atletico. However the only time they lost at this stage was two years ago to the Rojiblancos (1-2 on agg.)

Atletico were a bit lucky against Eindhoven in the previous stage, but they did not manage to qualify on penalties. They reach the quarter-finals for the third successive year. Simeone’s men kept 13 clean sheets in their last 17 Champions League games. They hold 2nd place in the Primera Division sitting 6 points behind Barcelona after closing the gap with their 5-1 victory vs Betis. However, the Champions League looks a more possible target than the Primera Division.

Simeone’s players need to step up on their game but also be calmer than in January’s 2-1 loss in the Camp Nou where they ended the match with 9 players (it could have been less).
