Euroleague Basketball Predictions

Week 2 of the Euroleague regular season is here, and it already looks like it will be an exciting one. There are a few new teams, some old favourites and -most importantly- many great games ahead. So, let’s dive straight into our Euroleague picks for the first week:

Our EuroLeague basketball tips appear under each mini game preview.

Fenerbahce – Maccabi

Fenerbahce (1-0) and Maccabi (1-0), two EuroLeague teams who dominated the headlines throughout the offseason, both replaced their head coaches and added a number of noteworthy players. They play each other in Istanbul on Friday night after each team started the new season with a victory.

Fenerbahce, now under the direction of head coach Dimitris Itoudis, travelled to Round 1 and defeated Bayern Munich 74–62 in a game it controlled from beginning to end. New additions Jekiri, Motley, Calathes, and Hayes-Davis all had significant contributions. Fenerbahce missed the playoffs last season, but thanks to a swift rebuild, the squad is back in the mix, as seen by the victory at Bayern. In its opening home match of the EuroLeague campaign, Fenerbahce will be adamant about giving its supporters a good time.

basketball prediction Tip: 1 (-4.5) at 1.90

Olympiacos – Zalgiris

The 2022–23 Olympiacos (1-0) will play Zalgiris (1-0), a team seeking its first victory of the continental season, in its home debut in the EuroLeague.

At Palau Blaugrana, Olympiacos defeated Barcelona 70–80 to get the season off to a strong start, thanks in large part to Vezenkov’s 20 points and 7 rebounds. Larentzakis scored all 12 of his points in the final six minutes, which proved decisive. Bolomboy contributed 12 points and Peters contributed 10, all in favour of Olympiacos. Vezenkov was the lone player with double-digit scoring who didn’t start off the bench, demonstrating the depth of the Reds. Olympiacos is back in its comfort zone after a stunning road victory in Round 1, but it will be missing its home crowd at Peace and Friendship Stadium because it must play this game in a private setting.

basketball prediction Tip: Under 153.5 at 1.90

Baskonia – Partizan

When Baskonia (1-0) hosts Partizan (0-1) for its home debut on Friday night at Buesa Arena, it will be looking to build on its self-confidence-boosting first-round road victory. Although the two teams have previously faced off seven times in the EuroLeague, this is their first encounter in more than a decade.

Three EuroLeague rookies, Kotsar, Thompson, and Howard, all excelled for Baskonia in their recent emphatic 71-81 victory at Valencia Basket. After tallying 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and a PIR of 31, Kotsar was voted the EuroLeague Round 1 MVP, and guard Thompson contributed 11 assists without committing a turnover in 26 minutes of play. On what turned out to be a fantastic night for Baskonia and first-year head coach Joan Penarroya, another guard, Howard, finished with 12 points as well. In front of their home supporters, they will now try to continue where they left off.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (+3.5) at 1.90

Milano – Alba Berlin

Only one of Milan (1-0) and ALBA Berlin (1-0) may remain unbeaten after their Friday night matchup at Mediolanum Forum because both teams had victorious starts to their campaigns in Round 1.

Milan is under a lot of pressure this season after making offseason additions like Pangos, Baron, and Voigtmann, each of whom contributed to a 62-69 road victory over ASVEL Villeurbanne in the opening round. 34 of Milan’s 69 points came from a combination of Baron (18) and Melli (16), while Tonut, another newcomer, impressed as well. Milan has high goals, as usual, so achieving them will depend on how well it performs at home right away.

basketball prediction Tip: Over 154.5 at 1.90

Valencia – ASVEL Villeurbanne

When Valencia (0-1) hosts Villeurbanne (0-1) for Round 2 on Friday night, one of the two teams who have yet to win a game will get its first victory of the year.

Valencia will try to rebound against ASVEL after losing their all-Spanish home debut to Baskonia, 71-81. With 14 and 12 points, respectively, Rivero and Prepelic led the orange squad, but Valencia will need more from players like captain Dubljevic, Alexander, and Jones if it is to win and avoid suffering two straight home losses.

basketball prediction Tip: 2 (+6.5) at 1.90
