Zenit – Maccabi

  • Zenit has won two out of its three three games against Maccabi, but lost the only game they played in St. Petersburg.

Zenit St Petersburg will look to take its winning streak to three games when it hosts Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, which has dropped six games in a row. Zenit (10-6) has climbed into a share of fourth place in the standings entering Round 17 thanks to back-to-back road wins, most recently 74-85 at AS Monaco as Jordan Loyd and Billy Baron combined for 39 points on 10-for-13 three-point shooting. Zenit is 5-3 at home this season. Maccabi has lost its last five road games and is 2-6 outside of Israel this season. Last week the Israeli champs came up short at home against Anadolu Efes Istanbul, 78-92, despite 23 points from Ante Zizic. Last season Zenit beat Maccabi twice, including an 86-69 rout in Russia.

Bayern – Baskonia

  • Baskonia has won four of the six games between these two teams.

FC Bayern Munich will host one of the top players from the squad that made club history last season by reaching the EuroLeague Playoffs when it faces Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz on Wednesday. Wade Baldwin IV was Bayern’s top scorer last season before switching uniforms and signing for Baskonia over the summer. Bayern (7-9), which looks to snap a two-game slide, has won four in a row at home. Last week Coach Trinchieri’s men came up short 81-78 at Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade despite 21 points from Vladimir Lucic. Baskonia (5-11) has lost back-to-back games and five of its last six. Last week it slumped to a 75-53 loss at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. The team is 1-7 on the road this season.

Panathinaikos – Olympiacos

  • These two archrivals have met 15 times this century in the EuroLeague and the Reds hold an 8-7 advantage.

Time for the Greek derby! In a battle between archrivals, Panathinaikos OPAP Athens (4-12) hosts Olympiacos Piraeus (11-5) in the first Greek Derby of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season. Panathinaikos comes off back-to-back losses and hopes to bounce back in front of a sellout crowd at OAKA, led by Nemanja Nedovic (10.3 ppg.), Ioannis Papapetrou (11.2 ppg.) and Georgios Papagiannis (9.3 ppg., 8.1 rpg.). Olympiacos has won five of its last six games and looks for its third road victory of the season. Tyler Dorsey (13.1 ppg.) is the Reds’ top scorer, followed by Sasha Vezenkov (12.6 ppg.) and Kostas Sloukas (10.3 ppg.). Expect an electric atmosphere in this highly-anticipated showdown.

Real Madrid – CSKA Moscow

  • CSKA has a 21-8 advantage over Real in their meetings this century and has won six of the last seven.

The two winningest teams in European basketball history meet again, when CSKA Moscow (10-6) visits Real Madrid (13-3) in the Spanish capital. Real leads the all-time standings with 10 continental crowns, with CSKA right behind with eight. These teams face each other for the 53rd time. CSKA downed Los Blancos in the 1963 and 1969 EuroLeague finals as well as in the 2019 EuroLeague semifinals. Real prevailed in the 1965 EuroLeague finals and the 2018 EuroLeague semifinals. Walter Tavares (12.0 ppg., 7.1 rpg.), Guerschon Yabusele (12.4 ppg.) and Vincent Poirier (11.5 ppg.) are leading Real right now. Will Clyburn (14.9 ppg.) is CSKA’s top scorer, followed by Toko Shengelia (14.2 ppg.) and Alexey Shved (11.3 ppg.).

ASVEL – Fenerbahce

  • Fenerbahce is 7-1 this century against ASVEL.

Two teams with the same record but very different momentums meet at Astroballe where LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne (7-9) hosts Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul (7-9). ASVEL won six of its opening eight games but has been 1-7 since. Elie Okobo (16.6 ppg.) and Chris Jones (13.1 ppg.) have been the team’s pillars. Fenerbahce is in its best form this season, on a four-game winning streak. Jan Vesely (13.9 ppg.) has been Fenerbahce’s top scorer, followed by Nando De Colo (12.5 ppg.). Fenerbahce has won its last four games against ASVEL, whose last victory against the Turkish powerhouse, 61-69, came on December 9, 2009. That was ASVEL’s Paul Lacombe EuroLeague debut, too.
